924.0. "A Toy That Works" by SEMI::GIL_PASSOLAS (CADSYS::GIL_PASSOLAS) Mon Nov 30 1987 16:32

I just purchased the most incredible toy for Mosa, my 6 year old
female tiger. The toy, called the Galkie Kitty Tease, is nothing more than
a fiber glass fishing rod, with a piece of denim tied to the end of the
nylon fishing line. The fiber glass rod vibrates in such a way that it
makes the small piece of denim on the end of the line come "alive". The
movement of the cloth actually simulates the movement of a small insect or
bird, so your cat can play at "stalking" and then "attacking" its prey.
It's great for indoor cats or cats that need to shed some extra weight.

I originally saw this toy at a cat show in Boston, but I've never seen
it in pet stores. It's available through mail order
from The Galkie Company, P.O. Box 20, Harrogate, TN 37752 (615) 869-8138.
You can write or call for prices.

By the way, you get a little owner's manual with it (the man who invented
this is seriously into cats).

I bought a similar type of toy for my cat about a year or so
ago. However, what it was was a piece of piano wire about 2 1/2
feet long. At each end was a piece of sturdy string to hold on to.
What my husband did was to attached 3 or 4 circled bread ties to
one end. Selina just loves it. We are very carefully about the
end of the ties, though. Everything is taped up.

Unfortunately do to some roughhousing at my house on Thanksgiving,
the toy was broken. My dad took another piece of wire and made
Selina a similar type of replacement toy. She loves it! She sure
    did miss her toy, though.

She prefers this to all the store bought toys that were given to
her. What a great idea for an inexpensive toy that gives her hours
    and hours of pleasure.

We can always count on her dragging the toy to us every morning
when we get up and in the afternoon when we walk through the
door after a long days' work. But we're never too tired to play
    with "our baby".
