922.0. "Holiday Happenings...." by MYVAX::LUBY () Mon Nov 30 1987 10:45
Well, my kittens and I went up to visit my parents for the
Thanksgiving weekend. We had alot of fun. T.K. and Bandit
got to meet my parents 11 year old, 16 pound cat, Cinamon.
Actually, T.K. had met him before but that was back in
September and they never got the chance to become friends.
I figured this weekend would be the ideal time to become
friends, especially since Cinamon will be coming to live
with me after Christmas for the winter.
We arrived Wednesday night and by Thursday afternoon, Cinamon
and Bandit were rolling around the floor wrestling. Imagine
a four pound kitten rolling around with a 16 pound cat. It
was quite the sight! T.K. wasn't too interested in wrestling
with Cinamon but didn't mind playing with his tail or taking
swipes when Cinamon wasn't looking. But the second Cinamon
started rolling on the floor, inviting him to play T.K. would
back away. Both kittens remained somewhat wary of him the
entire weekend although Cinamon thought they were great. He
really wanted to play but Bandit was the only one who would
play with him.
The dog was of great facination to both my kittens. When they
first met him Bandit arched his back and growled as loud as
could be. Finally he spent the rest of the evening watching
from behind the lamp. T.K. on the other hand, delighted in
walking back and forth in front of Tex, taunting him, poor dog.
The rest of the weekend Bandit was too curious about the dog
to be scared. He would follow him around and attempt to touch
him with a paw. Or else he would just sit a few feet away and
watch. But then he decided to practice hissing!! He didn't
even need the dog around to hiss!! He was just practicing.
But sometimes he chose the dog as his victim and poor Tex got
quite upset.
One night at feeding time my mother was feeding them all and
she put the dogs food down first. Well, T.K. got a bit confused
and attacked the dog, claws out, hissing away!! I guess he
thought it was his food.
Well, even though the kittens were a constant source of entertainment
for the entire family, my father has asked me not to bring them
home with me again. It seems that Tex decided to mark his territory
by peeing in the house. I don't think my kittens caused him to
do this because my brother also brought his dog home and that is
what upset him the most. But my father is of the opinion that
both the kittens and the dog contributed to the problem. He
thought that Bandit was the cutest thing he had ever seen so I
don't know why he doesn't want them again!! He didn't like T.K.
though, who is very independent and is a bully. My mother liked
T.K. and wants to make a fur coat out of him, she likes his markings
so much. And mom came to get them out of my room every morning
while I was still asleep so that she could play with them!! Maybe
they will cool down in a month and let me take my kitties home
for Christmas too. I don't want to spend Christmas without my
kitties!!

| FUR COAT?!?!? Yikes! I'd worry about leaving T.K. too close to
your Mom! But, then, I don't think T.K. would stand for it! As
for the doggy marking his territory, I'd guess it was to the other
dog, and not the cats. If he wanted to mark his territory to a
cat, I think he'd just swat the kitty away! Besides, the dog is
used to cats and shares his home with them now. I'd say get rid
of your brother!!
Sounds like everyone (except you're poor Dad!) had a blast! Good
luck with Christmas!
