    I found a young male cat sitting in the middle of the street on my way
    home from work last week.  I stopped to get him out of the street, but
    he was so friendly and oblivous to danger that he wouldn't move til I
    picked him up.  Needless to say, I brought him home.  I have posted
    FOUND notices in the neighborhood and knocked on quite a few doors, but
    no one seems to know him. 
    
    He's a tabby cat, about 8-12 months old, and VERY AFFECTIONATE, so he's
    obviously been around people, and PURRS very loudly whenever he sees
    us.  I can't keep him because we have 4 other cats, two of whom have
    been recently adopted, so I can't add any more stress to their lives.
    The lost kitty is staying in the garage for now.  I can't just turn him
    out to be killed by a vehicle or starve to death, so I am trying to
    find him a good home.  I'm willing to assist in paying for a vet
    checkup, shots, and a neuter job.
    
    Anyone have an empty space in their heart and home for this adorable
    young cat?  Or a recommendation for a no-kill shelter where he could
    live and hope for adoption?

    (By the way, I found the cat in Marlboro, MA, and live there.  I
    am willing to bring the cat to almost anywhere in New England.)

    I'd love to be able to take him, but can't.  I recommend taking
    him to the Sterling Animal Shelter.  They don't put the animal to
    death and also have a vet on their staff who comes and checks out
    the newcomers.
    
    I had a very good experience with this shelter.  I found (was found
    by?) a grown cat last year.  He was deaf and had an eye infection.
    I called everywhere, but no one wanted to take him except Sterling.
    This cat had obviously belonged to someone because he was just too
    affectionate to be wild.  Either he was lost or abandoned.
    
    Anyway, I brought him to Sterling, filled out a postcard, gave them
    a donation, and left.  A week later I received the postcard with
    a note telling me that he'd been adopted by an elderly lady who
    wanted a companion for her cat.
    
    They are located right off of Route 2.  This time of year is a nice
    time to drive along route 2.  give them a call for exact directions.
    
    Of course - I hope that someone decides to adopt him.  Check the
    local papers for lost notices, too.

    I HAVE KNOWN OF SOME FOLKS WHO HAVE NOT HAD GOOD EXPERIENCES WITH
    STERLING...PLEASE BE CAREFUL.  ARE YOU SURE THEY KEEP THEM INDEFINITELY
    FOR ADOPTION.
    
    I MAY BE WRONG...WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE CAT BUT I ALREADY HAVE 7.
    HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FOR EVERYONE.
