774.1 | What's in a name? | EXODUS::ALLEN | | Tue Sep 15 1987 14:43 | 32 |

Well, I don't have QUITE so many, but my cat Sebastion knows all
the names I call him...
Sebastion Baby
(hence ->) Sebaby
(further hence ->) SABEY! (Say-bee)
(yes it gets shorter) SABE! (long a, -rhymes with babe)
The big Sabe
(then there's) Saber-tooth (the mighty hunter)
GOOD KITTY! (to which he purrs and says, "yes, I AM wonderful,
aren't I?")
He does get confused when I call my husband, Dave, and he comes
running (the cat, not Dave)... but then sometimes when I call "SABE!"
I hear Dave yell "WHAT?"
I like to "sing" to Sebastion his favorite song...
"Hey, Sabe, take a walk on the wild side, I said, Hey, Sabey,
take a walk on the wild side..."
(I can never remember who sings that song)
And I must not forget Claude, alias Claude_with_an_e, Claudia,
Claudius-Minimus, Claudia-kitty, Claudette, Panther-paws, and if she's
being stubborn and won't come, Sebastion. Sebastion always comes when
I call, and she figures if he's there it must be something good,
besides, she has to do everything he does.

774.2 | Merlin's alias | INK::KALLIS | Raise Hallowe'en awareness. | Tue Sep 15 1987 15:18 | 8 |
| Merlin, because of his Manx heritage and his (almost embarrassing)
affection towards me, is frequently called "Puppy Cat" to his face,
and is often referred to as "the puppy."
But he knows his _real_ name is Merlin, T. S. Eliot to the contrary
nonwithstanding.

774.3 | Spunky and Wits-a-Wits | RATTLE::LANDRY | | Tue Sep 15 1987 17:01 | 15 |
| I have two cats with all sorts of nicknames - my mother thinks I
am crazy:
Zildjian - alias wits-a-wits (said in a singing voice), its-a-wits,
my baaaabbbbyyyy! (that's her favorite), yitty-cat, its-a-bits,
the white one (she is practically all white, and I mean white)
Paradiddle - alias spunky, skunky, purr-face (she has a great voice),
my maine coon (said in a singing voice), fatso (she has a clump
of fat that hangs under her belly) and dummy. This precious kitty
has a habit of turning on her back and crying out loud (you'ld think
someone was being mean to her) when I sing out her name.

774.4 | Spike and Bobo | IMGAWN::OLOUGHLIN | | Tue Sep 15 1987 18:52 | 30 |
| My mother's cat has picked up a few nicknames over the years :
Conika (sp?) Verde (full name - Spanish meaning is green marble)
Nika (pronounced Nee-ka)
Nik the Sneak
Super Nik
Sneaker
kitty-cat
fur-face
fuzzy-butt
lord of the manor
the animal
The Sage
My own kitties havn't had time to pick up so many nicknames yet. They're
only 3 1/2 months old. But they do have some :
Etienne Navarre aka Spike, Squeaker, the road hog*
Isabeau aka Bobo (now that I know he's a he,not a she),
itty bitty pretty one, speed bump+,cry baby
The road hog because occasionally he runs from one end of the
appartment to the other and stops for NOTHING!(except the wall)
Isabeau is called the speed bump because Etienne doesn't stop for
him either!
Re .3 Sounds like the cats were named by a percussionist.

Re .4
As a matter of fact my husband is a drummer and he came up with
those names. Hence, the nicknames cuz most people can't pronounce
their real names.

| My wife has many names for one of our cats (his 'name' is Bud):
Butter
BooBooz
Booz
Butter Ball
And a whole bunch more I can't think of.
What do I call the cat?
Butt.

774.7 | Name Nonsense | 16821::BALL | | Wed Sep 16 1987 11:23 | 19 |
| This made me laugh so hard. I thought I was alone in this nonsense.
Back in my poorer days (before DEC?) I lived in a house with 5 other
people and 7 cats. One Friday night we were sitting around getting
stupid and thinking up middle names for our felines. Corkie ended
up with Corkie Sue (we were getting stupid, OK.) So this made the
list endless. She gets:
Corkie
Corkie Sue
Sue
Sue Bay (Sue Baby)
Kee Bay (Kitty Baby)
Sue Kee Bay
Cee Sue
and Garys' favorite "PUSS"
Decipher this "monner yuvs a Cee Sue Bay".

774.8 | I can just IMAGINE what she calls me | CIVIC::JOHNSTON | rebel without applause | Fri Sep 18 1987 12:55 | 13 |
| May cat answers to [when she's answering]:
Maggie [her _real_ name]
Maggie Mae [from my husband when she's sociable]
Mags
Baggie [she'll cross international borders to jump in ANY bag]
Tart [from my husband most of the time]
Princess [also sometimes referred to as Princess Margaret]
Maggits [when she 'helps' me cook]
I guess we know who runs _our_ house...

774.9 | Funny how this happens! | NHL::WATKINS | | Thu Sep 24 1987 11:54 | 13 |
| Our cats have a few nicknames, too:
Hannah:
Hanny-face, Hannah Banana and most descriptive of all...
Bad-Hannah-The-Lamp-Breaker (occasionally varies to The-Plant_Eater)
(she picked this one up from a childhood "accident")
Alex is either Alexandra, or Alley-Cat
Scarlett is either Miss Scarlett (the movie) Miss O'Hara, Scarley-poo
or Sca-Sca.
These cats haven't been around too long. You should hear all the
things we call our dog Willie!

774.10 | And this from a grown woman?? | NOD::TAMIR | | Fri Sep 25 1987 11:46 | 10 |
| It's not bad enough that Hamilton Bates Farnsworth gets called "Honey"
all the time, but I make it worse with "Hunny-Bunny" and
"Boobie-Woobie". Chauncey Coleman Farnsworth gets "Chauncey-Wantsy"
and "Puff". Chauncey also gets called "Little One" cause he's so
tiny (just 6 pounds at 16 months).
Around my house, the Van Grayson boys get called "Dashley Ashley"
and "Beauty Boy Van Grayson"; Skyler just gets called "The Poop!"

774.11 | Building a Schizo Cat | MEMV01::BULLOCK | Flamenco--NOT flamingo!! | Thu Oct 01 1987 12:24 | 24 |
| Well! It's good to see that I'm not the only cat-owner soft in
the head! :-) My Billie (named for Billie Holiday, for her melodius
voice and bird-like chirps) has the following nicknames:
Billie-fish
Bilbo
Bibby-Lou
Billie-Tuna (dir. of the first one)
Tootsy-Looba
Pooty
Pootsy-Cat
Skoodly-Doo-Dah (figure that one out)
Whadda-GOOD-girly!!
Bubbsy
Bubba-Lou
Bibbs
P-Girl (dir. of my fiance's house-hold name for her--highly
unflattering--"*P**shead" (*that other word for "urine"?)
No wonder she's a wacko!
Thanks for this note,
Jane
