Hi fellow cat lovers! I'd just like to share with everyone my joy of being a new kitty owner! I picked her up last night. It was a real custody battle between me and a newlywed couple. He was in the Army and hadn't even found a place to live yet, so after telling my side of the story to them, how much better off the kitty would be with me, I don't ever plan on moving and if I did she would definately go with me - them being in the Army and newlywed wouldn't take her with them and then who would want to adopt a fully grown kitty. I know there is a lot of ads in this file for fully grown cats and I think it is sad that alot of them go without being adopted but it seems that everyone wants a kitty...I included. When I got her home she (Asia) staked out the place, I don't think she missed a nook! The first night was a little hard because she didn't want to sleep in her own bed. So she slept with me. Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep. I was worried I would roll over on her, but usually I don't make too many wave and I sleep very light. When I woke up this morning she was sleeping down around my lap (see..I sort of curl up when I sleep and she was in the middle of it!) It really broke my heart to leave her this morning. I left her in my bedroom with the kitty litter and her own bed with food and fresh water next to it. When she gets older she can have the whole house - but lets not push it. I guess I rattled on enough about my purrrrfect roommate, it's just that it took so long to find her. I have been searching for 9 months for my dream kitty - she finally came true! Linda

Congratulations, new mom! Aren't cats great? You're in for a lot of fun with Asia--they really do make life even better. Here's some ideas for you if you haven't heard of them: Get Asia some of those little plastic balls with the bell inside. Half of the ball is "criss-cross" plastic so cats can pick the ball up in their teeth. My Billie loves hers--we get a new bunch each year so she can destroy them. Other objects my monster enjoys are Q-tips, rubber bands, catnip mice (of course), live flies that are so unfortunate as to wander into our house (:-P), golf balls, and the casually trailing yard of yarn (put AWAY after each use so she doesn't swallow it)--we call this "trolling the kitty". Billie sleeps with me occasionally, too--on my side of the bed. Cats seem to enjoy a particular sleeping spot, and then move on to one they like better, and so on. She especially likes to drape her fat little body over my pillow while I sleep--when I wake up, I only have a small corner of it for myself! Anyway, enjoy! Nothing like a good cat-friend. Welcome to the club, Jane

Another favorite of our three (PDG, Pixel, and Pi) is the "kitty beater". (No, of course not, we don't actually BEAT them!) Take a 3/8" diameter 3' wooden dowel and attach to one end a 3-4' length of elastic (1/8" or less). To the free end of the elastic attach a very small furry toy. Sit comfortably on the sofa, hold the "beater" like a fishing rod and bounce the toy by flicking your wrist. This can become a very energenic game, provides excellent exercise and is the only activity where the kitties wear out before the humans do!
756.6 | Puff balls, too! | VAXWRK::SKALTSIS | Deb | Thu Sep 10 1987 12:32 | 6 |
My angels like those brightly colored flannel covered "puff balls" that Hartz puts out. The inside of the ball is styrofoam. Panther likes to grab it in his mouth and then strut all over the house, growling so that everyone knows he caught (and killed) it. Deb

Thanks for all the toy ideas! Asia is all set with toys (until she loses them). You know for someone who lives alone...it sure looks I have a bunch of kids running around - I love it! Linda |
