| It's always shedding season for longhairs at our house. It sounds
like you may have end of summer shedding prior to the winter coat
come in. If your house is dry, the low humidity can contribute
to dry skin and hair loss. While this shedding is ongoing, make
sure you comb or brush the cat a minimum of once daily preferably
twice. Dead hair leads to matting so you want to remove it regularly.

| Shedding leads to ...hairballs! YCCH! Nebula has started to shed
out her summer fur as of a week or so ago, and has produced several
wonderful messes in various places (she ahsn't gotten the bedspread
yet...), but JFCL hasn't started shedding (surprisingly, since her
fur is much longer, she hardly ever has trouble with hairballs).
Brushing will help, if your kitty will tolerate it. Nebula doesn't
like being brushed at all (it's right up there at the top of her
hate list along with being fed pills, having her claws clipped,
and geoing to the vet). JFCL loves it, but she isn't the problem
kitty.
