742.0. "Cats in Britain" by WELSWS::MANNION (Farewell Welfare, Pt. 3) Thu Sep 03 1987 08:25

Ellen 'n' me have been reading - and occasionally writing to - this
conference since the start of the year. It seems that there may
be scope for a note specifically for UK noters/caters, where we
may discover that ABCDE::BLOGGS is actually Fred Bloggs from Shire
Hall, where we might find out the local number for the Cat protection
League, where to buy Sheba cat food, etc.

Many things to do with cats are timeless and universal - was it
not the Romans who firts said "What's new, Pussycat?", for example
(Quid nunc, o felix?) - and all the notes from the US are interesting,
but maybe there's a few things that are specific to a location/time
    - like where _do_ you get Sheba if you live in the North? In the
South you get it at Sainsbury's, but there's few of them north of
    Watford.

    Anyway, on with the motley...

Ellen works in Sales in Welwyn, and I work in software. We have
    two black ex-toms:
Shuggie and Spike. Shuggie is named after Johnny Otis' guitar
playing son, Shuggie. Spike is so named cause he looks like a Spike
    - full of swagger and bragadoccio. He's big and fluffy, but not
fat. Shug is little and skinny and squeeky. They're the Ben Johnson
and Calvin Smith of the cat world. Shuggie has his own song -
    	Shuggie was a mighty cat,
He was a cat o' might
at which he takes offence, can't think why.

There are a couple of us in Basingstoke who read this notes file
occasionally - we think it would be a good idea to have a UK version
    ... are you volunteering???

They have Sheba in Gateways in Newbury - but how about ringing Pedigree
Petfoods near Melton Mowbray (they make it).

    I have 5 cats:

Kishi (13 years), a seal-point siamese we brought back from Africa
Suki (13 ), a Brown Burmese, also from Africa
    Kara (10), a tortie-point Siamese
    Monty (18 months), a Chinchilla
Max (18 months), a silver tabby

My problem is buying cat litter and food in bulk!!

Count me in. The cats notesfile is always interesting but occasionally
products/vets mentionned don't apply over here in England. It would
be great if people could contribute with the equivalent over here.

Owner of 2 cats, a black and white, and a ginger and white
moggie who doesn't need quite so much cat litter!!

Things must be different in England, if people own cats instead
    of vice-versa :-).

I'm based in Reading, Queen's House. Count me in too.

I have three cats: Oliver, Pandora, and Hector.

Re:.4 No, I don't own them. They let me live in their house.

I know I'm a bit late to this note but did anyone ever set up a
notes file for "UK Kitty Noters???"

If so I'd be very interested in it. I am in Dec Park (Fraggle Rock)
and get very confused as to who's in USA and who's in UK etc.

Not to my knowledge. Let's hope it happens soon. Perhaps we could
    start swapping piccys as well?
