A small kitten was abandoned in our yard a week or so ago. Unfortunately, we have two children who are very allergic to cats, one of them asthmatic - and the cat has triggered significant health problems. So...we need to place this cat, but I don't know how. We have exhausted our circle of friends and acquaintances to no avail. A fellow worker suggested this notes file. The kitten has been litter-trained and is extremely friendly, and loves (and I mean LOVES) to be around people. We have six kids and the kitten really enjoys them. We believe it is female - although we aren't sure. It is gray and black, has fairly short hair and is a very pretty cat. I have no idea how old the kitten is, but it is small. At this point in time it seems our only option is to call the Nashua Humane Society, but the thought of this kitten being put to sleep makes us feel like murderers. Does anyone know of someone who would like this kitten or could help us find an option to putting it to sleep? I can be reached at work at DTN: 272-7069 or at home (603) 881-5757. Thanks for whatever assistance can be rendered...Bill Keyworth

Hi Bill, Just last week I adopted a kitten or else I might have considered yours. But just to put your mind to rest, I visited the animal shelter in Goffstown N.H. and looked at their kittens. Then I asked them how long the kittens were kept before they were put to sleep. Well, they said that those kittens and cats that make it to the front room would stay until someone took them home. They told me that they only put away sick animals that have a slim chance of recovering and hostile ones. So, since this kitten sounds healthy and friendly you have nothing to worry about if you have to bring him to the humane society. I would assume that all animal shelters would be the same but ask when you bring him in. Another suggestion : I got my kitten at the Bulger Animal Hospital in Andover MA. Many animal hospitals will take in kittens and put them up for adoption. But I'm sure you'll find a home for the kitten real soon. Good luck, Karen

I was reading the reply this note received and I hope that kitty has found a new home. As far as the shelters I know Hudson, N.H. has a very run down but excellent one but Nashua's is the exception to the rule. That is the only one that I've heard of first hand that the animals do not get a fair chance. In the past there has been alot of uproar over their "time limit" on animals. It was in the Nashua Telegraph awhile back in the editorial section by a woman that was totally shocked by them. Briefly the woman had brought a dog to them in good faith and decided in less then a week to take the dog back and to keep it. Upon calling them she was told the dog had been put down already. And they also have the bad rep of making it very very difficult and exsaperating to even adopt one of their animals. So just a word of warning on that city's shelter.

I hate it when I hear about animals being given no chance on life. Do we do that to humans. Why are animals any different. They are God's creatures too. Sandi |
