694.0. "Good Food Cheap?" by DECSIM::TAYLOR () Fri Jul 31 1987 16:40

    Hiya. My kitties have so far gotten Iams (a milk-carton full for
    about $3.50) Kitten Food and Science Diet Feline Growth (a 4-lb
    bag for $6.25) - they love 'em both (although they like cheese better).
       Since I'm going to buying catfood for the next 15+ years, I'd
    like to know where the best places in the Massachusetts area are
    for buying it so I can still keep my house. I don't mind buying
    in large quantities from wholesalers - that's preferable if it'll
    bring the proce down.
       Thanks muchly.

                                     Mathew (Scooter and Zuba's dad)

    p.s. my data points. The Iams I bought in Arlington Ctr.
                         The Science Diet was from Vet Med in Franklin.

694.1Boston Pet in WalthamVAXWRK::SKALTSISDebFri Jul 31 1987 16:596
    I don't know if this is true for all of them, but the Boston Pet
    Supply in Waltham is pretty cheap. I'm not sure of the exact prices,
    but when you bring the food to the counter, they take 10% off the
    price marked. If you buy three or more bags, they take 20% off.

    We feed our cats (mostly show and breeders) the raw beef fed to
    greyhounds supplemented with rice baby cereal and a calcium/phosporus
    blend. We but it from the track supplier @ ~ 40 cents/lb. Cats
    love it but we need a freezer just for their food.

694.3stock up at cat showsTOPDOC::TRACHMANMon Aug 03 1987 10:255
    Another place to stock up would be at the shows - they are usually
    cheaper than the feed & grain places(if there are shows in your
    area).

All of the Breeder's Pride stores carry Iams, Science, Tami-Ami, etc.; however,
I'm not sure if they are cheaper than other places.

    Erickson's on route 27 (just north of Maynard and south of Acton)
    carries Science Diet. I usually buy the dry food. At one point
    I checked a bunch of stores for a while, and Erickson's was always
    cheaper for the food. Another place WAS cheaper for the litter
    I (and cats) like. but they stoped carrying it - so now I just
    visit Ericksons. If you decide to buy locally, you might want to
    survey all the places prices for a bit, before you decide which
    one to use.
