636.1 | Great Play! | DONJON::SCHREINER | Go ahead, make me PURRR... | Thu Jun 25 1987 09:33 | 5 |
| I loved CATS. It was sometimes hard to believe that the performers
weren't of the real feline species!!!!!

| Yep, it was great, not only as a musical but as a depiction of the
foibles of our furry friends. I've always been fond of the poems
on which the play was based, and they really came to life in the
stage production.
(Rum-Tum-Tugger looked very much like Chiun, although Chiun is much
more laid back... And Abigail is practically a letter-perfect Jellicle
Cat.)

| CATS was one of the finest plays I have seen. It is a must for
every cat lover. Various characteristics of the cats in the play
were exactly like those of my cats at home. This provided me with
many a laugh!

| I saw CATS on New Years Eve 3 years ago. I thought it
was great. It had to be a requirement of all the performers
to observe real cats in action, they were so on the mark.

| I've never had the pleasure of seeing it, but my wife and I have
fallen in love with the music. The music and the poetry were meant
for one another.

636.6 | Old Possum's book | TRUMAN::PLATT | | Fri Jun 26 1987 15:46 | 13 |
| I, too, saw and loved CATS. Although I saw it on Broadway over
three years ago, I haven't had any success in getting my hands on
"Old Possum's Book" on which the lyrics to many of the songs were
based. It's been mentioned in this file many times. What are the
chances of borrowing someone's copy?
Second question, how would one define a "jellicle cat", or is that
definition addressed in the book?
Thanks,
Pulitzer's mom

| Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats should be available in any of
the collected works of T.S. Elliot; check your local library.

The musical CATS will be back in Boston at the Shubert Theater from 17
September through 6 November. Tickets are available at the box office,
through Ticketron, or Telecharge (1-800-233-3123). The first ad I saw
about this was in last Sunday's Globe. I went to Ticketron last night
and they told me that tickets were going very fast.

| My husband gave me two tickets to CATS for my birthday this year.
I thought it was a wonderful play. I think every cat lover should
have the pleasure of seeing it. The music and the dancing and all
the talent that was on that stage was truly incredible.
I would also like to know what they meant by a jellicle cat, if
anyone knows.

636.10 | it's what the Cats heard... | URBAN::JOHNSTON | I _earned_ that touch of grey! | Thu Nov 19 1987 08:06 | 5 |
| re. "Jellicle cats" & "Pollicle dogs"
This is phonetic translation of "Dear Little Cats" and "Poor Little
Dogs" as spoken by the human gentleman equivalents of Bustopher
Jones [a.k.a. "the St. James's Street Cat"].

636.12 | *All* Cats are Jellicle Cats | CIVIC::JOHNSTON | I _earned_ that touch of grey! | Mon Nov 23 1987 11:33 | 8 |
| nope, the man's widow when asked by interviewers gave the 'dear
little...' answer.
it makes sense, if you note the lyrics or see the play. Very few
of the Jellicles look alike or are calico and they all describe
themselves as Jellicles.
