623.0. "Looking to Adopt a Maine Coon +" by DELNI::HYER () Mon Jun 15 1987 18:58

    We were devastated by the loss this weekend of our 16 year old
    "kid" due to kidney and liver failure. She was a Maine cat from
    Scarborough, Maine, black with very little white and with quite
    a personality.

    We are now looking to adopt at least one Maine Coon cat. Does
    anyone have recent contacts of breeders who might have a Coon
    available. I am looking for a pet, not show quality. We would
    like to have two cats this time around. Given we may have to
    wait to find a Maine Coon, it will be very hard for us not go out
    in the next few days to get a Heinz 57 variety to fill the terrible
    void. I definitely have to have at least one black cat running
    around!! We are interested in females only.

    If anyone knows of adoptable cats, please let us know. We live
    in Nashua, N.H., work in Littleton, Mass. and spend a lot of time
    in Otisfield, Maine (north of Portland). We are certainly willing
    to travel to find the genuine Maine Coon Cat.

    I hope I only have to go through this once every 16 years....it
    is devastating at best!!!

623.1Some things to tryVAXWRK::LEVINEMon Jun 15 1987 19:3011

There's a cat show this weekend in Lexington, Mass (see note 548.13 for
more details). I suspect there will be quite a few breeders of Maine
Coons there.

Also, look at note 156 for some leads on Maine Coon breeders.

    I was sorry to hear of the loss of your 16 year old friend.
    Having a 15 year old cat myself, I know how hard it will be
    to be without her when her time comes. My understanding and
    thoughts are with you.

    I am sorry to hear about your loss. My baby is only 3 years old,
    but she is the runt of the litter and we have to take special care
    of her because she can become sick very easily. I dread the day
    I will lose her.

    Have happy and loving memmories.

623.6Cat show may have kittens for saleTOPDOC::TRACHMANWed Jun 17 1987 11:458
    Not sure this will help - but, there is a Cat Show this weekend
    in Lexington Mass. at the National Guard Armory - there may
    be some Coon kittens for sale. At least it's close by - there
    will also be a show in August in Manchester NH - someone may
    also have kittens there. Sorry about your loss - good luck
    finding a new baby or babies!!

      Once you have a Maine Coon you will never, never, ever be able
    to spend a day without one again. My Ruby is 16, and I get teary-eyed
    just thinking about that "day" that will come some day.
      I just happened to be looking at one of those Advertiser ad books
    you can pick up at your corner store, grocery store, whatever and
    was amazed at how many Maine Coons were in there. I do remember
    seeing a breeder listed in Hudson, which would be close for you.
    There were quite a few, though. I suggest picking one up. The one
    for this week was purple in color (the cover). I'll see if I can
    borrow it and get a couple names, in case you can't a copy near
    you.

      That's the WANT ADVERTISERS magazine. I've got it in front of
    me now, so I can be more specific.

      SOme entries for this include:

      Maine coons, CFF reg. blues,females, very affect.
      Also a 3 year old tabby male. $50
      Hudson 562-2350.

      It seems to be this one breeder that has several ads in there
    at once, but I'd certainly check it out.

      And let us know what you think about the breeder,cats,conditions
    there, etc. and of course if you find the lovecat of your dreams.
    That way we can know whether to recommend this breeder or not,
    does anyone out there know them?

623.9Coon Breeder Extraordinaire!DELNI::HYERMon Jun 22 1987 22:1820

    We have adopted one beautiful boy!! He is a silver Maine Coon Cat,
    10 weeks old and as yet unnamed. We still want one more but I would
    really like a female for the second one. We have had him all of
    5 hours now and all three of us are exhausted!

    I found him through an ad in the Portland Press Herald. The breeder
    is Lida Choate of 29 East Grand Ave. in Scarboro, Maine (Pine Point).
    What a find she is. She raises Himilayans and Maine Coons. These
    cats are genuinely loved and appear in very good health. They are
    all fat, clean, clear eyes, and no runny noses. She is a fountain
    of information on the history of Maine Coon Cats.

    We did find that a Ron Berry in North Windham is NOT recommended
    due to FELv and other infectious diseases. We came very close to
    going there but thankfullyf found out in time.

    Stay tuned, we are still looking for a sister and will follow up
    on the leads we have throught this notes file.
