615.0. "#608 is "GONE"" by AIMHI::OFFEN () Tue Jun 09 1987 16:26

This is the sad news that I just received about the tiny, fluffy,
black and white kitten that is referenced in notes 608 and 609.
As of last Friday, the kitten had a very loving home with a very
sweet lady. She went out and bought everything for him (it was
a male). She played with him, slept with him, and loved him. On
Monday, the kitten came down with diarreah. The nice lady called
the Vet to set up and appointment which was made for the next day
(today). When she brought the tiny, fluffy, black and white kitten
in she was faced with a hard decision. It seems that the kitten
had a broken tail and a lump on its back. The Vet told her he could
amputate the tail and possibly stop the diarreah but wasn't sure
of the lump. He feels that the kitten had been hurt prior to my
daughter finding him. With all the tests and possible complications
that could ensue, the Vet did say that the Humanest thing to do
was to put the kitten to "sleep". The nice lady only had the tiny,
fluffy, black and white kitten for a few days but was already in
love with it. She also did not have a lot of money to spare since
she was working days and going to school at night. She really was
in a dilemma. The Vet did not try to pressure her in any way since
it was a decision that she would have to live. She finally had
to opt for putting the kitten to "sleep". The Vet did give her
time to change her mind. When she was telling me this, she had
tears in her eyes. She said "I already loved him." Kittens can
    do that to you.

I really think it is a shame that SOMEONE out there is getting away
with what they did to these two kittens. I don't know yet if the
other one is ok but I do intend to find out. Anyone that has the
????? to abandon any type of animal whether it is healthy or not,
should be shot, horsewhipped. tar and feathered, etc. If I had
known that there was something wrong with the kitten, I would never
have given to the nice young lady. I don't enjoy hurting people.
The kitten did not have diarreah when she was with me for 24 hrs
    and she ate everything we put down for him. Sorry about the "she";
I have three (3) female cats at home. I also would not have let
the kitten suffer needlessly. He didn't seem like he was in pain
but maybe it had become immune to it. Who knows how long it had
    been hurting.

So much for a good deed and a Good Samaritan. We tried....

That truly is a sad story. My condolances. (sp?)

It's so hard to find a good home for all the abandoned kittens and
cats (let alone dogs). You did a truly admirable thing by finding
a good home for this kitten. At least it's last few days were
with love. There are many kittens available now. Maybe your friend
would like to find another? The bulletin board here in MKO has at
least two offers for free kittens.

    Again, my sympathies.

I am deeply sorry to hear about 608 it's so hard for someone to
loose something special to them and I offer you and the young
lady my condolances also. But I hope that you will be happy to
hear that my cat Tina had one kitten on Monday he's half siamese
but he's the same color as Tina (orange) I hope this makes you
little happier to hear that Monday wasn't a totally bad day.

    Sandi--

PLEASE don't stop being a "good Sam"! There are altogether too
few out there. What you did for #608 and the lady who took him
in was wonderful. Life is life--whether long or short. I'm sorry
about what happened, but it sounds like the kitten enjoyed his time
both with you and with her. If indeed he had pain, he also had
lots and lots of love, care, and help, and I'm sure that made a
    big difference.

You did a good thing, and #608 is safe now. Keep your heart open,

    Jane
