579.1 | spaghetti and hot peppers | GEMVAX::GRANT | | Tue May 05 1987 16:09 | 15 |
| I had a cat, some years ago, who liked spaghetti. Now, I know that many
cats like spaghetti, but he only liked it if he could steal it from
someone's fork, just as the fork reached the person's mouth. I had a lot
of claw marks on my tongue from that kitty!
One day, he tried to snag a ***hot*** pepper from my son's dinner
plate. After repeatedly pushing the cat away, my son finally let the
cat have the hot pepper, hoping to discourage the cat from further
theft. But the kitty liked it, and forever after that, one of that
cat's favorite treats was hot peppers!
He also ate an embroidery needle and about 12 inches of embroidery
thread, but that was a one-time deal . . .

| We just found an odd liking last night -- one of the cats likes
okra! Personally I can't stand the stuff but he apparently thought
it was great, yuck. He's definitely our most adventurous eater
but this I would never have expected.

| My cats LOVE asparagus and brussels sprouts.
Asparagus is so prized a treasure that they growel menacingly as
they wolf it down. It's as though they expect someone to come up
brom behind and steal it out of their mouths. I've never seen them
act this way over any other food.
Jan, you're right. Orange cats are the best.

Especially likes Doritoes, potato chips and triscuit crackers.

| I have an orange cat too! My Tabby, and he loves olives, especially
the juice, boiled ham, alphabet soup, vanilla ice cream, yogurt,
mushrooms, and people tuna. He really goes nuts over all these items
and always seems to know when they are in the house or we're eating
one of them.
My huge coon, Ruby, absolutely adores steak, especially grill
He will stand by the barbecue until the steak is done and then come
right over and demand his share. He loves shrimp, too, baked bean
juice, tomato sauce, and whole fresh baby birds.
Noella loves beer, but only imported brands. She is very fat,
and will generally eat anything she can get. She also eats potato
chips, even the Cajun style ones.

| I too have an alcoholic cat...Joui loves beer and wine. We discovered
it at a cat show. I had her cage door open so she could strut around
in front of it and she strutted right over to my wine glass and
started lapping it up!
Right before her nose hit the edge of the glass I was going to move
the glass, but another breeder remarked that Joui wouldn't drink
the wine. Little did we know that we were harboring an alcoholic
kitty.
Since then she has also tried beer and seems to like it too. Don't
worry... we make sure she never drinks alone ;^)

| A cat I had a few years back liked to eat anything... as long as it was meant
for human consumption. Ratsan's favorite meal was salad (with French
dressing!), steak and macaroni and cheese. If he was (unhappily) forced
to eat CAT food, he would only settle for Meow Mix.
Of course, this cat was strange all the way around... when he was a kitten,
his best friend was a field mouse.

| My cat and husband have a battle every morning at breakfast.
Sneakers goes absolutely WILD over Life cereal. He jumps
on the table and spreads himself out in front of my husband
waiting for another bite. My hubby spends more times throwing
the cat off the table than eating his b'fast.
I guess Mikie knew what he was talking about . . .

| Blinky loves waffles with jelly, pancakes, and bagels, especially
with cream cheese.
Teddy and I battle daily over my granola. He prefers it with milk
but has been known to eat it out of my bowl while I was getting
the milk from the refrigerator.

| My cats have been known to steal my husband's toast off his plate for
breakfast some times (if he turns his back).
But the strangest of all is Sebastian;
We grind our coffee at home, and if coffee bean falls on the floor...
he is in heaven! crunch crunch crunch. The other two have tried them,
but don't like them. I've never known a cat that eats coffee beans before!!!

| Our "baby" DejaVue, half Siamese, just loves Pizza. She practically
climbs onto my chest whenever I am eating it. The only way I can
appease her is to start giving her little bites. Actually, the
only way I can eat Pizza in peace, is to lock her into the bedroom.
Of course, being half Siamese, she does have an extremely loud cry.
I eventually break down and let her have some anyway. How can anyone
resist their "babies" anyway.

579.17 | Fruitcake Freak | PROSE::FISCHER | | Fri Jul 10 1987 14:33 | 22 |
| Several years ago I had a cat that went nuts over homemade fruitcake.
Kiki developed this strange taste when he was only a kitten. I had
just returned home from my parents' after the Christmas holidays
and hadn't yet put my mother's fruitcake in the refrigerator, when
company arrived. My guest and I were in the livingroom when I suddenly
became aware of the rustling of paper in the kitchen. Kiki was
up on the counter and had already managed to remove the aluminum
foil from the fruitcake and was proceeding to the saran wrap. I
was sure he wouldn't be interested if I gave him a taste, but much
to my amazement ... Thereafter I couldn't serve fruitcake without
giving Kiki a piece.
I used to think he liked the fruitcake because of the brandy it
was laced with ... until I came home one day from a bridal shower
with a piece of orange cake. Kiki went nuts over that, too! He
also loved veggies, especially peas. Come to think of it, I guess he
liked most people foods.
Fortunately my present cat, Butterscotch, lets me eat most of my
food in peace, although she does like to check everything out first.
Occasionally, she will pester me for a sample of chocolate ice cream,
however.

| Fruitcake and cranberry bread must have some common ingredient as
Mielikki loves cranberry bread. I too thought that once she had
a taste she wouldn't return, but no, she ate an entire slice. Ishtar
also has some strange tastes, it seems she likes honeydew melon
and chinese noodles. Or maybe it all boils down to "What mommy
likes, I like".
