| I've never heard of it either....let me know if you find out what
it is. I've got persians, and anything to help with hairballs will
be appreciated.

555.2 | INJECTION FOR ITCHING | ICEMAN::LMMURPHY | | Wed Apr 22 1987 04:55 | 9 |
| I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF AN INJECTION FOR THE ACTUAL FURBALLS. HOWEVER,
MY PERSIAN CAT WAS EXTREMELY ITCHY AND WAS CONSTANTLY LICKING HIMSELF,
CAUGING HIM TO GET LOTS OF FURBALLS WHICH HE CAUGHED UP. THE
VET GAVE HIM AN INJECTION FOR THE ITCHING (IT LASTS ABOUT 3 WEEKS).
IT WORKED WELL FOR HIS ITCHING AND DURING THAT TIME HE STOPPED
CONTINUALLY LICKING (OTHER THAN NORMAL BATHING) AND THIS HAS STOPPED
HIM FROM CAUGHING UP HAIRBALLS.

555.3 | Injection to settle stomach | GALWAY::SMARTIN | | Fri Apr 24 1987 15:57 | 12 |
| When one of my kitties got hairballs for the first time, she got
her stomach so upset, that she got into a cycle of vomiting, and
couldn't quit. (once every 3 hours... poor kitty she didn't know
what was wrong.) The vet gave her an injection to settle her
stomach so she could try to eat some 'bland food' and keep hairball
medicine down. Never seen a kitty hesitate so much over eating.
She still has to be pretty hungary to eat more than a few pieces
(tiny scraps) of boiled chicken (the 'bland food'). She also eats
very small quantities of regular cat food, and then comes back in
10 minutes or so for some more - if the first batch landed ok!

555.4 | HERE IS THE ANSWER | VIDEO::USHER | | Fri May 22 1987 17:51 | 7 |
| I got an answer on the injection for furballs. It turns out that the
injection is cortizone and it is strictly for a cat who is coughing
from the hairball to surpress it. So there is no magic cure - back
to the Petromalt.
