On May 3rd there is going to be a fairly cheap ($5 a shot) rabies shot clinic in Waltham, Mass. It will be in the Civil Defense Building on Lexington St (close to Rte 20 which is Main Street, in a small brick building). This will be occurring from 1-4. My vet told me about this last night and I believe he will be one of the vets there giving out the shots. Normal rabies shots from a vet are about $20, so this is really a good deal. This is for cats only, by the way. I plan to be there with my two. Any one else thinking of attending? Sounds like a great way for us to meet each other's cats! Pam

Waltham runs this clinic annually, but it normally comes 6 months before Argus and Pip are due. Now that my famiely has expanded, and three of the cats are due, I can finally take advantage of it. I plan to be there with the Alex and the twins. Which vet is going to be there, Dr. Morris or Dr. Bigman? Deb Waltham also runs an annual Dog rabies clinic which the've posted to the Waltham cable bulletton board for the past month. I wonder why they haven't mentioned the cat day.

Dr. Bigman told me about it and implied he would be there. For those interested, the Civil Defense Building is within a block of Rte 20 (Main Street) on your right. Pam

Many towns (in MA anyway, I don't know about others) have rabies 'clinics' in March and April, administered by a local vet. The location is usually a fire/police or DPW station. Clinics are advertised along with Dog Liscensing deadlines, so cats are not specifically mentioned in the notices, but there is no reason not to take the kitties down for half price shots. I used to work the Boxboro and Harvard Clinics with Dr. Smith. If you do take your kitties, it's best to keep them in the car (with or without carrier) and have the vet come out to the car to give the shots. That way the kitties are less upset by the other animals and there is less chance of an escape. Some of the vaccines that are good for 3 years for a dog are only good for a year in cats, so even though your reciept may say 3 years, be sure to ask the vet. Check your local paper or call your town hall. Also you can go to another town's clinic if your town's day is inconvenient.
