544.0. "Water Water Everywhere" by SCOTIA::TBOWEN () Tue Apr 07 1987 11:22

    All this rain we've been getting here in Massachusetts has gotten
    to us in two ways. We have no heat or hot water due to about 10
    inches of water in the basement and during one of the landlord's
    excursions into the basement Zach, our 5 year old black and white
    Main Coon (mostly), figured he'd take advantage of the open door
    and do a little exploring. Never having seen standing water there
    before he casually jumped onto what looked like the floor and found
    out that it was something different.

    Now, playing with water from a faucet and trying to stay afloat are
    not the same thing and although he enjoys the former he found the
    latter quite embarrasing. He promptly hid in a crawl space dripping
    water onto what dirt was left there, most of it was deeply imbedded
    in his fur. I had to crawl in after him and when I got there he
    was shaking with fear and I was shaking with laughter, I'm sure
    you've all seen a wet cat. After a rinsing in the sink and being
    dried off he was extremly affectionate and I only got two scars.

544.1what is under all that fur?NEWVAX::BOBBI brake for Wombats!Tue Apr 07 1987 15:4518

    The most pathetic (commical pathetic) thing I have ever seen is
    a wet cat. Especially a long-hair wet cat!

    I never realized how small Rascal really is under all the fur until
    the first time we gave him a bath. He has a large head, though,
    but it isn't noticable until he is all wet.

    Merlin, who has medium length hair, looks about as silly, but what
    it really funny is that he has a very long tail and when that gets
    wet and the rest of him doesn't, (he dips his tail in the pool without
    realizing it every once in a while) he doesn't know what to do.
    And it takes on the look of a rat tail....

    and the look on their face when they are wet shows they are now
    happy at all.... and yes, we have a few scars too, from the baths!

544.2Scars from Claws?GALWAY::SMARTINWed Apr 08 1987 15:0911
    Surprising enough - mine haven't given me any scars from the 3 baths
    they have had in their (short - 1 year) lifetimes. They do get
    bug-eyed scared and struggle (strong little beggars!) but no claws
    yet. (Please don't tell them about the claws!)
    Both of them are maine coons so they're longhaired and yes they
    look rather tiny when wet. They don't look nearly so grown up
    when wet.

    P.S. usually don't even feel the claws when they are dry except
    a little when they "make bread"
