477.0. "Am I Mom to a Snowshoe?" by BEING::BENNETT () Fri Feb 13 1987 15:37

Hi,
I'm kind of new to this Notes file and have been struggling to
catch up with all of the great things to read. One note in particular
has caught my eye.... Snowshoe Siamese! How would one know if they
really had a Snowshoe or not? About 2.5 years ago, a friend gave me a
kitten who he could no longer keep. This little munchkin just loved
the exotic feel of doing his "duty" underneath the potted palms and
potted rubber trees, etc. (I'm sure you get the picture....) and just
wouldn't use the box if he had this alternative. Since I am a cat
lover, and only have hanging plants (he *IS* smart, but not quite that
smart....), I was the perfect adoptive parent.
Anyway, Taji (don't know if it means anything, he came pre-
named), is a beautiful, loving, wonderful little cat. He looks like
a Siamese, but heavier than the real skinny, "pointy" kind I've seen
in books, on TV, etc. He has 4 white paws, a little patch of white
on his chest, a small patch of white underneath each of his front arms,
and a patch on his belly. He is a very creamy tan color, with dark
brown almost sable, face, ears, (general head area), forearms, entire
back legs, and tale. He also has crossed blue eyes. Is it a safe bet
to assume that he is a Snowshoe? Also his fur is fairly short except
on his belly where it's a bit longer and he's very soft. He does talk
alot, although, I'm not too familiar with a "real" Siamese voice.

All this discussion has gotten me curious, especially when I
saw that the Snowshoe had moved to Manchester, NH. That's where we
live, too!

I would be interested in any reading, etc. that anyone could
point me out to about Snowshoes.

Thanks in advance,
			Mary

Since the Snowshoe is a relatively new breed you may not be able
to find much about them in the cat breeds type of books. As of
this writing, they are not registerable in all associations (mainly
not in CFA, are in TICA) There are several ways you could find
out more about these cats. 1) Look in the breeders directory of
CATS magazine and CAT FANCY magazine, find a breeder and write to
them asking for more information. 2) Call TICA (The International
Cat Association) and ask to be referred to a breeder or maybe a
snowshoe cat club. TICA is located in Harlingen TX the number is
    (512) 428-8046.

I once had a Snowshoe "look-a-like" and he was a terrific cat.

Snowshoes are accepted for registration and show in CFF. CFF also
has a Snowshoe Breed Club, whom I'm sure could give you lots of
    information on showshoes.

    For information, contact:

    Jim Hoffman

I believe Jim is the president of the snowshoe breed club. He did
alot of work to get the snowshoe accepted for show and registration
    in CFF.

    Hope this helps.
