467.1 | Crazy taste buds.... | 25132::MITCHELL | | Thu Feb 05 1987 14:25 | 13 |
| Oh yes, my "Tigga" loves bread. When I make a sandwich, I usually
take an extra piece of bread and break it up for him. If I don't
he tries to nip at mine.
How about "Pop-Tarts" ??? My "Kitty" just loves these. She can be
on the other side of the house, but when I put a Pop-Tart in the
toaster she comes charging in the kitchen. I've even opened up a
can of her favorite food at the same time, but she ignores the
cat food and begs for the Pop-Tarts. I'd be interested to know if
anyone else has a cat that likes "junk food".

467.2 | how about mexican food? | PUZZLE::CORDESJA | | Thu Feb 05 1987 14:45 | 5 |
| I have one cat that adores mexican food. Most especially tortillas.
He will screech at us every time we have tacos or burritoes or
just chips and salsa. He has been known to help himself to a bag
of tortilla chips stored in the pantry.

| Our two are also fond of bread, particularly when they have "caught"
it themselves; i.e. when the neighbours have put out bread for the
birds and our boys help themselves to it. Kimi acts just like he
does when he brings a bird or a mouse in: shows it to us so that
we can tell him how clever he is, and chirrups away proudly at it,
batting it as he does. He particularly likes cathing raisin buns,
preferably buttered.
One day I was eating cheese on toast for lunch, and Kimi was coveting
it, but not getting any. He disappeared outside, and a bit later
came back - with a piece of cheese on toast! I never have figured
out how he managed that one.

| What on earth are Pop Tarts? I've nver heard of them. We don't have
them in England.

| re:4
Ellen,
Pop-Tarts are small pastries filled with various fillings (cherry,
strawberry, apple, brown sugar,etc) that you put in the toaster
to warm. I believe they are put out by Kellogg. Another brand
name for the same kind of thing is "Toastems". They are supposed
to be a quickie breakfast type food, but me and my kittys like
them for snacks.
I guess they are just one of the many "junk foods" that we have
here in the States.

fresh, right off the cob.

467.8 | Moggie?????? | PUZZLE::CORDESJA | | Fri Feb 06 1987 12:13 | 6 |
| I have a question for Ellen Pirie (sp). What exactly is a moggie?
How did the name come about? A british friend told me that she
thinks it is usually used to refer to a long haired cat. She has
been in the states for a time and therefore thinks she is a little
out of touch with british slang.

467.9 | moggies are... | WELMTS::PIRIE | | Tue Feb 10 1987 04:03 | 5 |
| A moggie is any cat which does not belong to particular breed -so most
pet cats are moggies. However it is a rather derogatory term and
is often used to describe strays or noisy toms.
I will check my dictionary and see if I can find the derivation.
|
467.10 | More about our Moggies | WELSWS::MANNION | | Tue Feb 17 1987 12:19 | 14 |
| We tried two dictionaries, one standard English, one Scots, but
we couldn't find the derivation of moggie.
Interestingly, perhaps, my parents from Manchester in the North
of England refused to use the term moggie for a cat. For them a
moggie was an insect of any kind.
Our cats aren't veggies, which is tough for them cause we are. One
of the will sometimes eat dried fruit, or cucumber raita, but
canteloupe would be asking too much. The other cat recently took
to drinking the water we were soaking some black-eyed beans in.

467.11 | cantaloupes and cats | GALWAY::SMARTIN | | Wed Feb 18 1987 10:03 | 7 |
| My parent had a cat that loved cantaloupe! Espcially the juice
that is left in the rinds. He used to lick it up. (unfortunately
he always got diarrea afterwards) He was an indoor outdoor cat,
and my dad has a compost pile, and had to start burying (deeply)
the cantaloupe rinds!

467.12 | Kittys and Olives | VIDEO::USHER | | Wed Feb 18 1987 12:42 | 7 |
| My Smurf who is usually very finicky came up to me one day and started
licking my fingers like I had catnip all over them. I couldn't
figure out why he was going so crazy. The only thing I had on my
fingers was olive juice. Well, thats what is was, he loves green
olives, even better than catnip and pounce!. I also let him try
a black olive and after he batted it around he gobbled that one
up too. Any other olive lovers out there?

467.13 | Mine prefer Kalamata olives to the green or black | VAXWRK::SKALTSIS | Deb | Wed Feb 18 1987 14:43 | 5 |
| Eirene and Panther like olives, and if Alex sees either of them
eating them, she'll have one to. Mine like them with a little feta
on the side.

467.14 | Ear Wax !@#!! | WELMTS::PIRIE | | Thu Feb 19 1987 04:50 | 6 |
| We used to know a cat that loved ear wax!! (Yuck). We discovered
this after scratching an ear with a little finger - the cat seemed
to love it. We were most surprised and rather disgusted!

467.15 | Pass the feta, please | CLUSTA::TAMIR | | Tue Feb 24 1987 15:54 | 11 |
| Honey also prefers Kalamata olives to the green or black, but he
will eat the black when there aren't any Kalamata on the buffet.
Chauncey isn't an olive fan, but they both love feta!
And for being bread eaters, they both love the stuff. Honey once
chewed thru the bag to get at a loaf of French bread, which is his
favourite. He also chewed thru the plastic wrap to eat a chunk
of birthday cake (but then it was for his birthday...Montellio's...
the cat has good taste!). The sound made when opening a jar of
baby food will rouse them out of a sound sleep (even better than
a can opener).

My parents have to keep all their bread in a cabinet that T-2
(pronounced tee-too) can't reach. If they leave it on the counter,
when they come back to the kitchen they will find a wax paper bag
with a hole in it and a loaf of bread inside the bag with a similar
sized hole in it.

467.17 | Popcorn Eaters | NATASH::WEBBER | | Wed Feb 25 1987 17:41 | 14 |

Brandy and Magellan have gotten into our cabinets to chew through
a loaf of bread - now we put the loaf into a plastic Tupperware
container. They love popcorn (especially Brandy) - we don't put
butter on it - they get one or two pieces - I don't know what it
might do to their insides...
Brandy loves to play with grapes but doesn't eat them. I have to
watch her to make sure they don't end up squashed on the carpet...
One thing I thought they would eat but they hate is eggs (cooked)
- I dumped some leftover breakfast eggs into their bowl one day
and they ended up carrying pieces of them around the kitchen but
nothing more...

467.18 | kill the pancake, kill the pancake.... | NEBVAX::BELFORTE | Steven's BEST half | Fri Feb 27 1987 13:25 | 6 |
| We had one a few years back that loved pancakes. She would take
hers and "kill" it first, then drag it all over the house, and then
eat it. Watching this silly kitten/cat kill the pancake was enough
to put us in the hospital. I even got some pictures of her in action.

467.20 | got any dip? | MURPHY::GLADDING | | Fri Mar 06 1987 15:52 | 10 |
| I have a cat that loves to sit and watch me eat potato
chips. I decided to let him try one - and he loves them!
I have to hold the chip for him, though, cause he has
a hard time chewing it (long fangs in the front, small,
short teeth in back).
He ends up trying to chew it with his back teeth, and most
of it falls out of his mouth and onto the carpet.
Never thought I'd have a "junk food junkie" for a cat.

467.21 | I have to hide from mine when I eat chips! | VAXWRK::SKALTSIS | Deb | Fri Mar 06 1987 17:32 | 9 |
| My twins (Eirene and C.L. Panther) go nuts over chips! When they
were little kittens I had some friends over and someone spilled
some chips on the floor. They devoured them like little munching
machines, so we put a newspaper on the floor and dumped a whole
bag of chips on it. They went into a feeding frenzy munching those
things.

467.23 | Donuts! | MILVAX::K_HAMILTON | Karen | Fri Apr 10 1987 17:34 | 13 |
| Punkin's favorite snack are donuts. After that come croissants
and cheese curls. I put down a bag with a box of donuts in it for
a minute, and when I came back to put it away, he was in the bag.
He didn't bother to take one out -- just stood there half in the
bag with the box torn open eating away.
Pusshy loves Italian spaghetti but he spits out the mushrooms.
Princess loves carnations, but will graze through our neighbor's
tulip bed when she can get away with it.
Would we let our kids get away with this?
