| In place of linen bags to hold catnip, I use the foot part of old
nylons. I just tie a double knot at approx the ankle. The weave
is fine enough to contain even the dusty part of the catnip, but
the cats can lick and sniff and chew to delirium.
[also less embarrassing around the house than the undergarments
some human types have reported that their cats demand!!!]

| One of my furfaces is alternately called "bucketbutt" and
"gophereater". The first because of his size (18lbs) and the second
because of his affinity for killing and eating these rodents.
His real name is Jesse James.

| I don't know what it is about foot smell, but I find it absolutely
hilarious to find very young baby kittens sleeping in my SO's sneakers.
He has pretty big feet, so all you can see are the little heads
sticking up out of the sneakers. And believe me, his sneakers don't
smell like roses!!! tee hee...

444.6 | Smells | COGVAX::HOFFMAN | | Fri Jan 09 1987 14:06 | 13 |
| Anyone have cats who *love* the smell of Desenex food powder?!
My female and her two daughters just adore this odor! One time,
Mutu had gotten into something that made her pads smell awful. We
put some Desenex on them, and she didn't know what to do! She shook
her paws, and then rolled in the Desenex smell! It was really funny
to watch. The daughters live in N.J. with my in-laws. When their
new neighbor moved in next door and came over to visit, both Shadow
and Woodstock would roll around at his feet. This happened every
time, until he finally said that they must really like him. My
mother-in-law asked, very gently, if he used Desenex. Yup, he
did...she didn't have the heart to tell him it was because of his
feet!

them!!!

444.9 | Kitty in the shoe closet! | CADSYS::RICHARDSON | | Fri Jan 09 1987 14:20 | 7 |
| My cats don't like Desenex, but The Fickle sure likes SHOES. Our
bedroom closet has sliding doors, and she often hooks the end of
one of the doors and pulls it open (Fickle is a BIG kitty; she is
long enough to open doorknobs with her front paws like a dog does,
if the door opens inward, a feat Nebula can't match due to her smaller
size, even though Neb is the brighter of the pair), and curls up
in the shoes! She gets unhappy if I remove her and shut the door!

| my....how we wandered off the subject!!!!!!
Back to our furface SPAZ, she was given the name because
her spaziness occurs so often. Once you call to her
she looks at you with a Halloween face, arches her
back, sticks her tail up to the ceiling, and jumps
all four feet sideways!!! Then she rumbles--it is
almost a bark!!!
Thanks for the replies---I'm a new reader---now I'll
be a life member to this file!!!

after trying literally hundreds of names that just didn't seem to
fit her!!! Unfortunately, her name fits her personality....Noname
has no personality!!! Wonder if this could be why???

444.12 | Poor little Noname | PUZZLE::CORDESJA | | Fri Jan 09 1987 15:04 | 13 |
| Well this is my second try at adding a note.
That is a sad story about little noname. A friend of mine had a
litter of three kittens to register recently. Two were show quality
and the third was pet quality. They were bluepoint Birmans and
the third kitten was missing the white on a front paw. She had
no trouble picking names for the show kittens but the pet one had
her stumped. For 3 months we called that little girl "mutt".
One day while I was over there we decided that we had better stop
calling her that or she just might get too used to it so she was
dubbed Jaime. (born in the "J" year you know). I have no idea
what her new owners call her but I sure hope it isn't mutt.

444.13 | My Little Acorn | 25132::MITCHELL | | Fri Jan 09 1987 15:29 | 13 |
| One of my little darlings is called "Acorn". It seems that shortly
after purchasing my home (with Oak trees ) I found this skinny little
stray just sitting among the acorns day after day.(Of course I started
feeding her, poor thing) When she decided she wanted to come in
the house, I adopted her and hence she got her name, Acorn. When
I brought her to the vet for a check up and shots, I was informed
that she had a bit of a problem,(so we won't spay her right now)
and could not become pregnant. Well.....just about five months later
she presented me with a litter of little acorns. She is the most
loving out of my three little darlings, and still loves to roll
in the acorns.

444.14 | Huh? | MASTER::EPETERSON | | Fri Jan 09 1987 16:25 | 5 |
| I have a little one named "Huh?". She is called that because that
fairly well describes the look on her face at all times. I must
admit that I do feel stupid when I can't find her and go thru the
house calling "Huh? ... Huh? ... Huuuuuh!!!"

444.15 | Evolution | DECWET::KOSAK | | Sat Jan 10 1987 00:26 | 28 |
| Does anyone else out there name their cat one thing and then have
it evolve into something else? Example:
We named one of our cats: Emiley,
this soon turned into: Emmey
but (since she goes outside sometimes)*
when we called her it came out like:
(note the evolution)
Emmey, emmey, emy, m, e, m, e, m, therefore: Mem
and since I tend to add an "O" to the end of
names of things I love, (my 7 month old daughter's
name is Jessica, I call her Jesso) it ended up: Memo
Now she's officially called "The Memo"
Wierd, huh? ( ;-) .14)
* The Memo's idea of "going out" is sitting on the front porch for
half an hour.
Having some much needed fun in this conference, please excuse my
sillyness (it's all true though).

| At 10 months they are just noticing that sometimes when someone
calls them, that they might get something good...
(Thats what happens when you don't meke a big deal out of dinner
time)
But I still change their names around.
Tanqueray & Tonic => Tanque => Tankus => Tankie
Killishandra Ree => Killa...
sometimes people think I am calling her Killer... oh well.
Both cats get called "sweetie" and "dear" a lot too.
Both of them also like shoes, boots, shoe strings closets full
of shoes, beds with shoes under them etc. But they haven't
figured out how to play with those strange velcro fastenings
on shoes yet!!!

| Hamilton Bates Farnsworth became Honey because I'd come home from
work and say "Hi, Honey, I'm home!". He'll answer to both Honey
or Ham, but knows "Hamilton!!" means he's done something wrong!
Chauncey Coleman Farnsworth is more commonly called Ka-Ka-Face because
of his eye problem ("Dr. Bachrach, Chauncey's got Ka-Ka-Face again").
He's also been called Mucosa by my other vet, as he thought it was
more dignified than Ka-Ka-Face. I need a better name than that...
any ideas??? Can't do too much with a name like Chauncey...

444.27 | | PUZZLE::CORDESJA | | Tue Jan 27 1987 14:45 | 26 |
| This sounds like the place to find a solution for a name problem!
I am currently taking care of a female Birman kitten for her
owner/breeder. Her name is Jessica, she is called Jessie.
I have a male cat already named Jesse James who is also called Jesse.
What do I do???!!! It is becoming quite confusing!
The following conversation took place last night:
Honey, could you give Jessie the antibiotics that are in the fridge
while I get their cat food ready?
Why! What is wrong with Jesse? I am not giving him any medication
unless I know what is wrong with him.
Not Jesse, Jessie!!!! (very exasperated) The other Jessie!! You
know, the little one!
She is at that stage where she is learning to come when called.
I don't want to confuse her any more than she already is. What
do I do? What can I call Jesse (male) that sounds alot like Jesse
but isn't?!
help! jo
