421.0. "Cats on PBS in Boston..." by ARGUS::CORWIN (Jill Corwin) Wed Dec 10 1986 09:43

On Saturday, Dec. 13 (this coming Saturday), at 3pm (you'd better verify this),
PBS in the Boston area (channel 2) will be re-broadcasting their latest _Nature_
broadcast. The title of the show is "Cats" and it discusses domestic cats.

The show was very interesting; they discussed some inborn and learned behavior,
various cat noises and how they are studied, comparisons between domestic cats
and different kinds of wildcats, and other topics. They also had the required
adorable pictures. :-) I highly recommend watching it.

(I did a quick look and didn't see this announced elsewhere; this is my first
time in FELINE. Please "do what's right" if it's in the wrong place. Thanks.)

If this is the same show, as was on last sunday evening I would
agree. It was very well worth watching, and I really enjoyed it.

Yes, Cin, this is the same show as you (and I) saw last Sunday. I think it's
wonderful that PBS re-broadcasts like that; it gives you a second chance...

Quality programming is programming worth repeating :-)

    Jill,

I also watched the "CATS" program on PBS on Sunday.
I loved it!!!! The cats were soooo adorable.
I'm glad that PBS is reshowing the program because
I had guests over and it was difficult to keep the
conversation going and the ears on the t.v. I think
I'm going to tape it for future viewing.

Just one more for the replies.

The "CATS" program was broadcast on channel 54 in the bay area last
night at eight pm. I did tape it if anyone is interested. While
we were watching it, our four cats when laying around in the room.
When the cats on the TV started growling at each other, Jou Jou,
our only kitten, became very disturbed! She arched her back, layed
down her ears and hopped sideways at the TV. She had us in tears!
I don't care how hard she tried to be ferocious, there is nothing
funnier than a kitten hopping sideways like a rabbit!

re .6 , your cats reacting to the TV.

A few weeks ago they showed "The Birds" as the late night horror.
Our "boys" were lounging about in front of the air vents minding
their own business when the titles started to roll. The first 2-3
minutes of the film are taken up by birdlike shapes darting across
the screen and the frenzied beating of wings, which aroused more
than a little interest. They roared up to the screen and sat totally
transfixed ,their little heads jerking from side to side trying
to keep up with the action til finally the main film started and
they slumped down exhausted, probably wondering where all that food
had gone . (More entertaining than the film)

    Re last few:

Fairly recently, it was determined for certain that cats had color
vision. I've had no doubt: my Nianinne was _very_ interested in
birds. When I was living in Hiuntsville and color television was
a novelty, she'd only react to telecasts of birds when they were
    in color.

The program under discussion stated that cats discriminate only
    blues and greens.

This program was rebroadcast last Saturday, along with a similarly
    done "Dogs".

I have both of these programs on VHS if anyone is interested.
