Please don't have me committed for this...it's not for me --- I don't even have any cats. My sister has two neutered male cats - a "mutt" cat (your basic black and white feline domesticus) and a GORGEOUS Himalayan. The problem is the "mutt" cat (who was the first addition to the family) is quite aggressive with the smaller Himalayan. The Himalayan has become incredibly shy, which is a shame since he's so beautiful. Anyway, my sister read somewhere that there are vitamin and/or mineral supplements you can give cats that will decrease their aggressive behavior? Has anyone ever heard of this? If so, what are these supplements? Any other suggestions for aggressive cat behavior? Thanx, LZP

There are certain hormonal medications that can do this, but I _strongly_ urge you to check any such use with her vet. Steve Kallis, Jr.

re: .0 i've never heard of vitamins/minerals to curb aggression - what i have heard of (and used at various times) is a hormone called Ovaban - the several times i've used it for aggression, it has been effective, but i would greatly hesitate before using it again - ovaban over a period of time can contribute to various problems - my 16 yr old female was an 'over-groomer' for most of her life, was given ovaban, and is now diabetic (which may or may not be related, but i'm suspicious) - i had 2 males (littermates), rudi & fritz who were fighting badly - ovaban helped temporarily, but we ended up having to find a home for one of them upon the advise of an animal behaviorist as well as our vet - there are times when certain personalities just can't work - karen

Ever heard of sibling rivalry? It also applies to cats. I don't know if they really understand the concept of "we both came from the same parents". The world may never know. Jo Ann |
