We have three spayed females, one about 12 years old, and two from the same litter, 4 years old. They were all spayed before 1 year. One of the four year olds has started spraying (marking). I once had a castrated male who sprayed; it also turned out to be FUS (see notes 69.9, 326 and 348), but I was not aware that females could also suffer this affliction. Any help or experience with spraying females?? (Help!) Stephen

384.1 | See the vet first! | NEBVAX::BELFORTE | Wed Nov 12 1986 09:14 | 10
Cats get urinary tract infections, just like any other animal (human too). Get her to a vet and rule all medical reasons out. She may have just finally decided she doesn't like having the other cats using "her" litter box, and she is letting it be known. Try putting out a second box. If it is medical, the vet may have her take Ovaban, it's a "birth control" pill, and it usually works well. But first, I suggest getting her to see the Dr. M-L

I agree with 384.1. I once had a female that would spray when she would need medical attention of any sort. When she would spray, I would take her to the vet. Usually we would find that her temperature was up a bit, and she would be medicated. The doctor told us that it was good to have a kitty that would "tell us" when she wasn't feeling well. We probably avoided many an abcess that way. Good luck with your problem. |
