| I suggest you wait *at least* a month before getting another cat.
FeLV and some other cat diseases are contageous. If the disease
your cat had was one of these, your current cat may be in danger
of getting it and any cat brought into the house would also face
this danger. So, make sure your remaining cat gets tested for FeLV
now (maybe also at the end of the month?) and checked for any other
illness, and wait a while.
Cats/kittens are usually available at the Humane Society. There's
also an add in this file - something was entered yesterday or today
so it should not be difficult to find in the file. I don't know
if the owner would be willing to wait a month, though. You could
take a look in the local paper....

I am terribly sorry to hear about your cat's sudden death. I know
how difficult it is to lose a pet.

I neglected to mention that the Vet said that he was almost
certain that it wasn't a communicable (sp?) disease and that a new
cat was ok. He seemed to have had something cause a collapsed ling,
or something to that effect. He essentially couldn't breath. He
was only 7 months old so it might have been something from birth.
Also he just had his operation to get fixed 2 days ago, so that
might have been a problem...though the Vets don't seem to think
so. The Vet was Marlboro animal Hopital, and they have a good rep,
and they always seem to care, so I doubt it was neglegence (sp?)
or anything of that sort. Thanks for the warniong though.
Re .2 Thank you. I just feel bad for my other cat, she's all alone
now and has to go through the process of accepting another "intruder"
on the house. She just got through that 2 months ago!

I'm sorry about your kitty. I was planning on waiting awhile before
getting a new cat when mine died, but my roommates dog was SO upset
that I went out the next day and got a new cat. I understand your
wanting your remaining cat to be happy.
If you get your cats fixed, why not go to Northeast Animal Shelter
in Salem, MA. For $32 or $38, depending on long hair or short hair,
you can get a wonderful cat or kitten and the money covers free
spaying or neutering when it's time. I was there yesterday with
a friend who got a kitten and they had lots, including one 10 week
old orange kitten who was very loving and I had a very hard time
to keep from taking him home. It's hard enough finding an apartment
with one cat.
Anyway, don't feel you have to wait. Good luck.

I'm confused, that's where we are now!
BTW All those who answered. I have found a new playmate for my other
cat, a 7week old kitty from the humane society. She is very cute
(as all kittens are) and was shy at first, but seems to be opeing
up, as she bombs around the house with reckless abandon. Teela,
the original one, has just now started to accept her...things are
looking better. Thanks to everyone who responded.
