Has anyone had any experience in training their cats to use
the toilet instead of a litterbox? A while back, I sent away
for a new fangled contraption that is supposed to train your
cat. It's a plastic cover that fits over the porcelain of your
toilet. It has a little well in the middle. The idea is to
fill the well with litter, and somehow get your cat to go in
the well. Everyday, use less and less litter until they go
on the clear plastic. Then eventually, you can take the cover
away and they will use the toilet alone. During this training
period, you have to take their litterbox away totally, leaving
the toilet as their only choice (or the floor, the carpet,
etc.)
I haven't tried it yet, but would like to get other opinions
on whether anyone has had success.

My parents had pretty good luck using a "kitty whiz"(?) with their
cat Penny, but unfortunatly they wound up resorting back to litter.
The biggest problems were:
1. Kitty finding the lid closed and going on the floor
2. Things falling in (my mother uses the tank as a shelf)
3. they had one of those soft, padded seates, sort of a vinyl
material, and Penny used to dig her claws into it to keep
her balence. She sort of wrecked it.

If I'm not mistaken, I think that Penny got a "diploma" for this.

| 323.3 | can you also teach kitty to flush? | HECTOR::RICHARDSON | Tue Sep 09 1986 13:26 | 6 | |
Can you also teach the kitty to flush? I've never tried to teach
mine to use a human toilet (the cat box is down in the basement,
not in the bathroom). I don't think I would be too thrilled to
find that anybody, human or feline, had used it and not flushed
it, but I'm not sure a cat can manage a toilet handle (or would
be interested in learning, cats being such independent-minded beasts).
