317.1 | Try a Kennel Kab | CLUSTA::TAMIR | | Thu Aug 28 1986 16:37 | 16 |
| I have a pet carrier called a "Kennel Kab". It's made by some outfit
in Arlington, Texas. It's a sturdy molded plastic with good
ventilation and a metal grate door with a spring loaded latch.
This particular brand was recommended by my vet as being durable
and safe. I've seen this brand at lots of pet shops. While you're
at the pet shop, you can also find a urine odor eliminator!
BTW, I keep the kennel tucked under a table in the living room and
Honey sleeps in there quite regularly. I keep a nice soft towel
in it for his comfort (spoiled little brat!). You can expect to
pay about $20 for a cat-size carrier. If there is a Blue Seal Feed
place near you, you might try there instead of a high-priced mall
pet shop. My friend got her carrier there and payed only $16 for
the same I paid $20 for.

317.2 | Try white vinegar! | BOOLE::PAPISON | | Thu Aug 28 1986 17:37 | 12 |
| I purchased a cat carrier at a local pet store, I believe it was
Dr. Pet for approximately 25.00. Mohammad, a large three year old
male, objected violently to even getting near it, yet would crawl
into the cardboard one easily. Left the plastic carrier in the
dining room area and after a few days of crawling in and out, he
now calls it home and our transportation problems are over. As
to the urine .... in a pinch, should it happen again, you can always
put vinegar (preferably white), right onto the area, and then dab
it up with a paper towel. I have done this and never had a trace
of a urine smell. I have never had much luck with any of the
commercial urine odor eliminators! Hope this helps.

317.3 | uncooked coffee | STUBBI::REINKE | | Fri Aug 29 1986 14:03 | 6 |
| Uncooked ground coffee got the urine smell out of our car carpets
when my cat did the same thing. Unfortunately she also peed on my
camera which I had left in it's case on the floor of the back seat.
Some day when I have lots of $$$ I may try a camera shop and see
if they can get the rust out. (The camera was a wedding gift from
my husband.)

317.4 | Try Odor Disposors | VAXWRK::SKALTSIS | Deb | Fri Aug 29 1986 15:10 | 8 |
| I've had good luck with this stuff called "Odor Disposors"; It is
a non-toxic enzyme that you mix with water. I don't know where you
are located but I usually get it in Debby's Petland in Newton, Ma.
White vinagar and water works OK but the smell makes me think I'm
living in the middle of a salad (and I hate salads!!!)

317.5 | cardboard cat carriers | HECTOR::RICHARDSON | | Fri Aug 29 1986 15:47 | 17 |
| I bought both of my carboard cat carriers, which are only used to
transport the kitties to and from the vet, from the vet. I think
each one cost $2. The cardboard is plastic lined. I put a layer
of newspapers in the bottom when I have to transport somebody to
the vet; JFCL, who otherwise loves to ride in the car, gets panicky
when she sees the vet's building and sometimes urinates, but I can
toss the wet papers at the vet's, wipe out the box, and put in new
paper (they always have some there). The boxes are plenty big enough
for the Fickle, who is just under 12 lbs. They wouldn't do for
taking an animal to a show, I suppose, and won't survive forever,
but they were certainly cheap. I got them from the Marlboro Animal
Hospital (in Marlboro, MA), but I don't know where they buy them
from.
White vinegar is the best bet for taking the smell out of the car,
but it will defintely smell like vinegar. Maybe your vet has a
better idea.

317.6 | | NINJA::HEFFEL | Tracey Heffelfinger | Tue Sep 02 1986 13:48 | 17 |
| Like the noter in .1 we have a Kennel Kab. It cost us $25 about
2 years ago. I don't think they've gone up since then. They have
the added benefit of being airline rated so that if (god forbid) you
ever have to fly your cat somewhere, you've already got a rated
container. We have 6 cats and often take more than one to the vets
at the same time (our vet gives us a volume discount!). So we'll
eventually get one or two more.
As for the urine, vinegar is cheap and will get the smell out
but it will smell like vinegar for a while. You might try Robinson
Lab's "Urine and Stool Deoderizer" (catchy name, huh?). It works
very well and leaves a pleasant smell which fades fairly quickly.
It's only draw back is that it's about $5 a bottle. But for a one
time shot I would go with it.

317.7 | Deodorizer | USMRM3::JTRAVERS | | Tue Sep 02 1986 14:23 | 11 |
| I have used the deodorizer and it worked quite well (kitty decided
to let lose on my sofa one day). I have a half-gallon of the stuff.
If you're in the Marlboro area and can come by MRO3, call me and
I'll bring a spray bottle of the stuff to work.

317.8 | On sale this month at Osco | CLUSTA::TAMIR | | Wed Sep 10 1986 14:26 | 9 |
| If you're still looking for a carrier, and you're in the vicinity
of an Osco Drug (and everything else) Store, they have a carrier
called "Pet Taxi", which is just like the Kennel Cab on sale this
month for about $11.00 which is half what I paid for mine! They
had four sizes, the smallest of which suits my kitty just fine.
Such a deal...

317.9 | WICKER BASKET. | SUBURB::COFFEYJ1 | | Thu May 05 1988 08:37 | 18 |
| Don't know if you can get them over there, but the basket I got
which my parents have always had for theirs was a nice looking wicker
one. Its as long as any regular cat I've seen, all wicker apart
from the door which is a metal grid, reasonable priced ( around
five pounds don't know what it'd be over there), kind of arched,
with a handle on top.
Because it's woven and the door's pretty much not there there's
loads of fresh air, and being wicker it actually makes a really
nice looking basket in a house.
It's always been popular with our cats once its got a baby blanket
folded on the bottom, and doubles up in the house as a very hard
to damage scratching post.
