312.1 | Is it legal to call for a boycott ??? | DSSDEV::COLLINS | | Mon Aug 25 1986 11:33 | 11 |
|
Put a hold on that boycot! From what I understand of law (which is
very little) you can't go about "slandering" a companies name without risking
consequences. Well it's not slander now, it's libel. I don't think you can
call for a "boycot" against a manufacturer, and certaintly not via DEC
equipment. So I wouldn't send that note to the manufacturer till things have
been checked out since Digital might be liable since it is THEIR computers
being used.

312.2 | WHY NOT SWITCH TO "SCIENCE DIET" | FULTON::DERUSSO | | Mon Aug 25 1986 11:39 | 18 |
| I highly recommend Hills "Science Diet" or Hills CD Diet for Cats.
The latter of these two can be purchased from your veterinarian.
Hills "Science Diet" is available in two forms - Dry and Wet -
and may be purchased from a reputable pet supply store. Hills "Science
Diet" is available for kittens (Feline Growth) and cats (Feline
Maintenance). Hills CD Diet is for those cats prone to Feline
Urological Syndrome (Cystitis). Both products are extremely high
quality and Hills has not changed their formula for 20 years. Why
change a good thing? Whereas IAMS and many other food companies
are constantly doing that; they'll charge the same amount of money
or even increase the price of the food while the quality decreases.
I would never think of feeding my cats any type of commercial food,
as the quality control is exceedingly lax. I can attest to the
quality of Hills: I have two Abyssinians, and both coats absolutely
glisten and they are at their peak of health.

312.3 | Choices... | INK::KALLIS | | Mon Aug 25 1986 12:31 | 13 |
| If kitty isn't prone to FUS, a lot of foods are okay.
They love C/D dry, but Karamaneh has a tendency to throw it up from
time to time.

P.S.: No matter what the state of their health presently, I'd avoid
giving them any tuna-based food. They generally love it, but it's
very, very high in magnesium.

312.4 | 'threat' retracted | MANANA::JFAUST | | Mon Aug 25 1986 16:32 | 10 |
|
Oops, major mistake. The note I wrote this morning was written
in a anger. Now that cooler heads have prevailed, I understand
the error of my ways. The food and a note will still go back
to Carnation, but the "threat" will not.
Thanks for keeping things in line.

312.5 | re bones | STUBBI::REINKE | | Mon Aug 25 1986 16:43 | 4 |
| In regard to the bones if they were well cooked they could be eaten with
out any problem. Canned Salmon contains spines and ribs and I have
been eating them for years every time I make Salmon loaf. You can
pick them out if you want to but they are soft enough to be eaten.

312.6 | I missed the original note, but... | MELODY::WATSON | I am not mad, I am interested in freedom. | Tue Aug 26 1986 00:20 | 11 |
| The original note was deleted before I saw it, but I agree you can't
call for a boycott using DEC equipment. It is perfectly reasonable
to mention any bad experiences you may have had with a particular
product (or business) and warn others about this (for example, see
the CONSUMERS notesfile). It would not seem to be slander or libel
since these Notesfiles are intended for internal use only. I believe
it would be good company policy to terminate any employee who tried
cause trouble by misusing them.

RE .6 Did you mean terminate EMPLOYEE !! or EMPLOYMENT !!
Has there been a change of policy ????

312.8 | No official policies on VAX Notes conferences | EXIT26::STRATTON | I brake for tailgaters | Thu Aug 28 1986 10:24 | 13 |
| re .7 (re .6) and "termination" - the author of .6 expressed
the OPINION "I believe it would be good company policy
to terminate any employee who tried to cause trouble by
misusing [conferences]".
There are NO polices (in the _Personnel Policies and
Procedures_ manual) that specifically refer to VAX Notes
conferences. There is a policy "in the works" about "misuse
of computers". It does not specifically refer to VAX Notes
conferences.

312.9 | What I thought we were talking about ... | DSSDEV::COLLINS | | Thu Aug 28 1986 16:53 | 10 |
|
I think the argument that notesfiles are "internal use only" holds no
water when you libel someone. So think twice before you startup boycott
campaigns with company resources.
I don't think this discussion is about misusing company equipement as
much as involving DEC in your own personal squabbles.

312.10 | ??????????? | MELODY::WATSON | Meanwhile, back in Shrewsbury... | Tue Sep 02 1986 23:53 | 16 |
| Re .7
It might be coming to that. ;-)
Re .8
Of course it was only my opinion!
Re .9
Now I'm confused. I agree that you can't call for a boycott. I
said so in my original note. But informing other readers about
a bad experience you may have had with a particular product is not
slander or libel.
By the way- There have been notes urging a boycott against SEARS
ROEBUCK recently in the CONSUMERS note.
