| IAMS samples always seems to be given out at shows, as well as sold
- as far as i know, it's supposed to be quite good, although since
one of my cats had a minor cystitis case a couple of years ago, i
keep all my cats on Hill's C/D - i think you'd be better off with
IAMS than any of the regular 'store-bought' foods...
as far as canned food, we use Bright Eyes - our pusses' meals consist
of a mixture of both C/D and bright eyes - they like B.E. and it seems
to be good for them - at one point i switched to Purina-100 and all
four (actually we had 5 then) had diarrhea - for about 3 days i boiled
white rice & gound beef! they were _REAL_ glad to get back to _their_
food!
sure wish i could find bowls_in_a_row - like a long unit consisting
of 4 food bowls and a large water bowl (water bowl removable) so
that we could pick up 1 unit to fill with food! actually, i guess a
rack could be made...

299.2 | A plug for Science Diet | KOALA::FAMULARO | Joe, ZK02-2/R94, DTN381-2565 | Thu Aug 07 1986 10:36 | 19 |
| I feed my three is Science Diet Feline Maintenance in the can and Tami
Ami Dry Food. These both are low ash and are excellent quality. Check
the ingredients and look at the nutritional information and you'll see
what I mean. When I first started using SD they seemed to eat less.
Why? Because they were getting the nutrition they needed from a
smaller amount of food. SD is not filled with water, fillers, and worthless
animal by-products like many of the others. And since they eat
less they make less trips to the litter box. It costs more, about $.89
a can by the case, but I found that I was actually spending less money
than buying junk foods at a lesser price.
I have given a sample of this food to friends and everyone that
has tried it has continued using it. Shop around for the best price
because I've seen it in some pet shops at the malls for as much
as $1.25 a can.
If you try it let me know what you think.

299.3 | Science Diet and Iams | WHOARU::GOUN | Owned by three cats | Thu Aug 07 1986 14:50 | 10 |
| My two cats ate Science Diet for six months, and have been eating Iams for
about a year. They thrive on both, but seem to prefer the taste of Iams.
My wife's cat also loves Iams, but is restricted to K/D because of kidney
problems.
If there's any difference in quality between Science Diet and Iams, it's
probably minimal. Use whichever your cats prefer, or whichever is cheaper
in your area.

| My four-year old Himmy loves IAMS. When he was a kitten, he'd eat
anything (rugs, towels, plants, walls, wood...) EXCEPT dry food.
He would tolerate Science Diet for kittens, but only if he feared
he'd starve to death if he didn't eat it. Now, he will only eat
IAMS. He will lick the gravy off a few varieties of 9-Lives and
leave the rest to dry up in his dish.
My stray cat population also loves IAMS. These are wild cats who
would otherwise go hungry, but it's amazing how fussy they are.
They don't like dry Friskies, and barely touch 9-Lives dry. But
they will fight over a bowl of IAMS. It's a bit too
expensive to feed all of them with it, but I do give it to them
on the rare occasions when I run out of other food. I buy IAMS
at Food For Pets in Amherst, NH and have found it to be cheaper
than the pet shops that also carry IAMS.

| Karen,
I believe I have seen racks of bowls in a row. I'll check around
tonight when I got home to see if I can find ordering information.

299.6 | mine like IAMS | DSSDEV::EPPES | From the home office in Milwaukee | Thu Aug 07 1986 20:07 | 9 |
| I've been feeding my cats IAMS for the past couple of months, at the
recommendation of the aforementioned Wife of Roger (see .3), who is a
vet. The cats both like it and seem to be thriving on it. Before that
I was feeding them Tami Ami, at the recommendation of my groomer, but
they seem to like the IAMS better. I don't know how much difference
there is between the ingredients of each kind; I suspect they're
fairly similar.

| Well thanks for all the input! I'm going to shop around this weekend
and compare prices and nutritional info. No more mediocre dry food
for our cats.

| I feed my three cats IAMS (dry). They love it and do very well
on it. Their coats are full and glossy and they never get sick
on it. IAMS also has a low enough magnesium level that it can be
fed to cats who are prone to having FUS.
Also, we feed only dry food with plenty of fresh water available
at all times. None of my cats (or dogs) have ever needed their teeth
cleaned due to the fact that they only eat dry food.
