My friend's cat, Skunk, spent the last couple of weeks back & forth between the vet & home. It all started with blood in her urine. The first diagnosis was a bacterial infection and everything seemed fine until a few days later when blood appeared again. The second visit to the vet involved a catheter up the urinary tract to see if there were any obstructions. None were found but the urine culture indicated pieces of bladder flesh floating around. Next step was an x-ray which showed kidney stones. Skunk was operated on and spent another couple days at the vet. So, after a couple of weeks of worrying and a few hundred dollars, everything seems fine. (Oh, I forgot to mention the unscheduled Sunday morning trip to the vet when we found her bleeding on her tummy. Her outside stitches disintegrated or something & she had to get new ones.) Anyway, she's on that C/D diet now. Has anyone else's cat experienced kidney stones?

289.1 | S/D is even better! | VAXWRK::SKALTSIS | Deb | Wed Jul 23 1986 21:46 | 9 |
My Argus, who is now at in the hospital for his latest bout with FUS was developing stones about two years ago, but the vet was able to give him something to desolve the stones without surgery. While Gus eats dry C/D, the moist food he gets is S/D (Stone Diet) which is also from Hills. There have been no more signs of stones since we switched to the S/D. I do hope Skunk is feeling better; stones are very painfull. Deb

I know this note is a year old please direct me if there is more info. We've just noticed Mersault a male who was nuetered this Feb. Has blood in his urine. I noticed it 2 days ago but didn't know what it was or who, we also have another cat and a dog. Anyways tonight i noticed him frequently straining to urinate. and red color in that dimes size attempt. So we will call the vet tommorrow FUS was mentioned to me. I would just like to be prepared for what we might be in for? Also what is the stone diet and c/d diet? Both cats get wet food with a small dish of dry to share. THanks Marilyn
