284.0. "MATTING PROBLEMS" by EXIT26::CAMACHO (Rick) Wed Jul 16 1986 10:29

I have a long haired orange cat with severe matting problems.
It's difficult to continually brush him because I don't have
the time. He usually receives his annual grooming at the Vets
when he received his shots, but now the Vet is telling me he
will no longer give him a cut because he doesn't like sedating the
animals if it isn't necessary. He suggested I bring him to
an animal grooming shop. That's fine, they will take him
except I have to hold him while they're doing it - NO THANKS!
He gets very up set and tends to start clawing. Any suggestions
as to places that might do this without my assistance. I do
realize that he should be brushed constantly but right now he's
a big mess and I need to get him cleaned up.

I have two Persians that I take to the groomer about once every
six weeks, in the meantime I brush them at least every other day.
I also use a protein spray on their fur which helps prevent matting.

I looked all around for a groomer that would work with the cats
WITHOUT sedating them and found one that does some of the finest
work around. The name of the place is "the Pet Health Spa Ltd"
in Nashua, NH. The owner of the place, Paul, treats the animals
very well! He does not believe in sedating animals to work with
them, so he uses a little tape around the paws, some animal
know how, and gets the job done. My cats come out looking like they
are ready to be shown each time I bring them there. I highly recommend
    this place.

I sometimes have difficulty finding time to groom the cats, so what
I do is keep some brushes and combs around various rooms in the
house and rather than make a big production out of it simply groom
them for a minute or two here and there, while watching TV, reading
the paper, working on the terminal...etc. It only takes at the
most 10 minutes and they are done. The problem arises when I do
not keep up with it and then grooming becomes a big job.

If your cat is matted badly take it to a professional groomer, they
have the proper tools, which makes the whole experience easier for
your cat as well as yourself.

Yes, Joe is right! I recommended the The Pet Health Spa to him
when I had my persian cat. My cat got tons of Mats and I had no
tons of time to brush him throughly. Paul is the greatest! They
also gave you an appointment every six weeks if you wanted....

    Excellent people I recommend highly!!!!!!

If Nashua is not convenient for you, "A Pet's Reflection" in Bedford,
MA, does a good grooming job and does not sedate the animals.
