242.0. "Please be careful about what you write" by EXIT26::STRATTON (Jim Stratton) Wed Apr 30 1986 22:29

As you may already be aware, a specific incident has caused the SEXCETERA
conference to be removed from its host system. The file may or may not
be restored, depending on the "management" response to the incident.

As a result of this situation, there exists the real possibility that
there may be a corporate-wide effort to restrict the use and availability
of "non-work-related" conferences.

I am writing this note simply to ask you to be careful about what you
write in this conference. Remember that whatever you write can, in
theory, be read by almost anyone in this company, from Ken Olsen on
down. And it could be read in either electronic or paper form.

This note is not directed at any specific note or individual in this
conference. I am putting this same note in each "non-work-related"
conference that I am responsible for.

I'm not suggesting that the "NetPolice" are going to start dismissing
people just because they've made a few silly comments in a conference,
on company time. I'm not trying to spread any panic. My personal
feeling is that the incident I mentioned above will simply "blow
over", and that things will be about as they always have.

In summary - think before you write.

I almost agree. Don't panic, but enable "alert caution."

In the original topic, I pointed you to HUMAN::DIGITAL, topic 111. Well,
HUMAN has been swamped with VAX Notes accesses during the (New England)
working day. Please refrain from accessing the DIGITAL conference during
HUMAN's workday hours. Thank you.

Jim Stratton (with apologies to HUMAN users and system management)
