201.0. "Catown Races song?" by EUCLID::PAULHUS () Fri Jan 24 1986 13:20

I was telling a friend of my new kitten's proclivity towards frantic
activity around 3 to 4 AM and she said that that's a well known syndrome.
So well, that GK sang a song on PHC one night titled 'Catown Races' or
some such with lyrics similar to: Catown races on my bed,
				    do da, do da,
Kitty cats running over my head,
				    etc, etc.
Does anyone have a recording of this? I'd like a copy. Chris

I'll check my PHC records and see if it's on any of them.

From the "Songs of the Cat" songbook, the songbook that explores the
many different facets of the cat experience. You should like this
one especially if you are part of a multi-cat living situation, and
if you are easily awakened in the middle of the night by the sound
of hooves.

	"The Cat Town Races"

The cats at our house sing this song:
Meow, Meow.
They run their races all night long.
Oh me, oh my.

Going to race all night, (chorus)
Going to sleep all day.
Up on the bed comes the bobtail cat,
Up on the bed comes the grey.

From the kitchen, down the hall, they take a right
And upstairs, upstairs.
The cat-town race track runs all night
Until it's breakfast time.

	(chorus)

Down to the basement and around the furnace
And upstairs, upstairs.
Thundering paws on the bathroom turn as
CRASH goes the aftershave.

	(chorus)

I sit up in bed and it's 5:48
A.M., A.M.
They come out again from the starting gate
On the front hall straightaway.

	(chorus)

Sounds like the bobtail pulled ahead
By one length, two lengths.
They dash through the door and across the bed;
My feet are the finish line.

	(chorus)

The sun comes up and I go downstairs
For coffee, coffee.
Exhausted cats on the living room chairs
Stretched out like big fur sacks.

	(chorus)

		[Words and introduction by
		 Garrison Keillor]

I don't think you will find this on any of the albums.

As the owners of 6 cats, one of which was almost renamed Shi'ite beacause
of his terrorist tactics at night, we have to say this is great and will
soon get printed and framed.

Ok, but don't sell it. Copyright probably held by Keillor and/or
Minnesota Public Radio.

Re: .4 -- I think you've got it wrong -- you're the "ownees" of the
cats, not the "owners" -- right?
