| If as I remember this is a disorder where the cat seems to lick
a certin spot until he/she/it wares through the skin....I sure do!
We adopted a 4 year old seal point from a shelter (Bosler in Bare
MA) and it came with a few (!) health problems (worms fleas, and
a shabby coat) But she was the most loving cat I've ever met.
She developed (within a month or 2) a couple of spots that she would
lick & lick &lick. It is a little disturbing to see your kitty cat
open a wound on a leg so we took her to the vet
We tried:
Cortizone (sp?) injected & oral
Sugical removal
more cortizone & a Eliz. collar
and across about 1 year nothing worked!
Finally after 3 month with a collar was put aside with a few seconds
of licking my wife and I decided that enough was enough and we would
just love her for as long as we had her and stop all the medication.
We found some quite strange things:
1) the more attention we gave her the less she seemed interested
in licking.
2) certin things triggered her to lick, for example the taste of
RAW (only raw) hamburger.
3) my wife & I arguing and ANY sign that we were rejecting her (the
cat's) attentions.
This may not work for everything, but nothing else worked for
us.
