Our 14 year old persian just died and we would like to get another long hair cat. We have a short hair kitten that needs a friend and if you have a long hair kitten (persian or angora) that needs a good home, let me know. We live in Southborough, so would be interested in anywhere within the greater Marlboro, Westboro, Framingham, etc area. Thanks, Don

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED A MAINE COON? AMERICA'S NATIVE LONG-HAIR AND THE LARGEST OF THE PUREBRED CATS. MAINES STAY PLAYFUL THEIR ENTIRE LIFES, AND THEIR COATS DON'T MAT. THERE SHOULD BE SEVERAL BREEDERS IN THAT AREA, IF YOU CAN'T FIND ONE, LET ME KNOW AND I'LL SUPPLY A LIST Dave

I agree that you could not get a better personality in any breed. The Maine Coon Cat I have is a constant source of enjoyment. As for the hair not matting, Einstein has had several occurrances of matted hair. Each time I have had to cut some of the matts off. He immediately has improved care of the matted area and I have never had to attack the same are twice. He is 2 years old and this has happened maybe 3 times. He has not had a mat in quite a while. DEPENDING ON YOUR LINE OF MAINE COONS, SOME OF THEM DO MAT. SOME BREEDERS HAVE INTRODUCED PERSIANS INTO THE LINE SEVERAL GENERATIONS BACK AND WE STILL GET CATS WITH THE UNDERCOAT OF A PERSIAN( WHICH CAUSES THE MATTING) MAINES, THOUGH, DON'T NEED NEAR THE ATTTENTION OF PERSIANS, HIMMIES, ANGORAS, etc.. RAGDOLLS ARE ANOTHER GOOD BET. A DETERMINED CAT FANCIER DAVE

Any sources of inexpensive, or free, longhairs, like a predominant, though mixed, persian? Kitten or very young a must. We generally try to take kittens that people are trying to give away since these are often the ones that wind up in animal shelters (to who knows what end), being put to sleep, or dumped by the side of a road to run wild if they survive. Thanks for the info on Coon cats, but I hear they can be rather tough (read rough) and we're into multiple cats and non-violence. Don |
