58.0. "Can I have another kitty?" by WILVAX::NICHOLE () Thu Jan 17 1985 08:45

I know there are a lot of "cats" out there that need homes, but my sister
is looking for a new kitty. She's got 2 little girls that would give
anything for one. If you live near the Reading area (no, not England, I mean
Mass.) we could come pick it up.

Thanks

Nichole

I don't know if you are still looking, but if you are...

I was just at the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem. I don't know where
Reading is in relation to Salem, since I don't know where Reading is, but it
might be worth a drive. They just got two cute grey striped kittens (sex
unknown), about 6 weeks old, and a 10 week old female with a coat I don't know
how to describe. Grey calico? Anyway, basically a grey base with gold and
brown. Unusual, but very pretty.

If you're into Siamese, they also have a pure black female aged seven months
named Tabby, and a calico female aged 4 months named Brazil. Both are
extremely nervous around the dogs, so it was a little hard to tell about their
personalities, but Brazil in particular seemed very sweet.

Sniff, we couldn't take them all!! We got a 7 month grey tiger named Oscar,
who reminded us of a previous kitten, also named Oscar, who died several
months back.

Oscar II is extremely affectionate, and seems to be settling down with the
Empress Star with no major problems, although there is a lot of hissing going
on. Oscar also has a tail that's about an inch and a half short. Apparently
it got caught in a car door when he was young, and the end of it had to be
amputated. The loss doesn't seem to bother him any, but he doesn't
particularly like anybody touching his tail. I can't imagine anyone giving
away a cat as beautiful or friendly, but apparently the previous owner
developed an allergy, so Oscar had to go.

By the way, Oscar has a brother, Snuffy, who is creamy yellow with a rather
unusual face in that his eyes seem to be rather close together. Kinda reminded
me of Clarence, the crosseyed lion from Daktari, but he isn't crosseyed.
Quite handsome and affectionate, but scared. He looked heartbroken to be
separated from Oscar, but we couldn't quite afford two, at least this trip.
I'd love to hear that Snuffy has found a good home, too!

give them for your new friend, Digital will also contribute. Yay, Digital!
As a no-kill pet shelter, the funds go to a good cause at NEAS. And your
"voluntary" contribution is tax deductible, too! (I say "voluntary", because
you'd make Scrooge look like Santa Claus if you left there with a pet and no
donation!)

yes, I am still looking - thank you for the info.

BTW, a friend of mine has a 7 week old kitty who's eyes are still not
open all the way - is this normal? (anyone know?)

thanks, Nichole

Having bottle raised some puppies a couple a months ago, I know that their
eyes open at 10-14 days. I understand kittens are a little slower but not that
much slower. I'm pretty sure their eyes are supposed to be open by 21 days.
I'll try to remember to look it up tonight.
