5557.0. "system version mismatch " by UTRTSC::GROOT_R (Ronald de Groot) Fri May 30 1997 11:29
Hello,
A customer of my has a Alpha with VMS 6.2 and UCX4.1 ECO3. After
upgrading from VMS6.2 to VMS 7.1 ucx gives the following error;
@sys$startup:ucx$startup
%INSTALL-E-FAIL, failed to CREATE entry for
DISK$OPENVMS:<SYS0.SYSCOMMON.SYSLIB>UCX$CFS_SHR.EXE
-INSTALL-E-SYSVERDIF, system version mismatch - please relink
Failed to start UCX$UCP
Unable to install file SYS$SHARE:UCX$CFS_SHR.EXE
After that the customer has reinstalled UCX4.1 and it works.
The customer has the following quistion.
What is the right procedure to overcome this problem when upgrading
VMS6.2 to VMS7.1?
I told the customer to run UCX$REGISTER.COM but this procedure
is not included anymore in UCX4.0 or 4.1.
I think a @sys$update:register_privileged_image.com register -
sys$system:ucx$ucp.exe has done the job?
I haven't find anything about using register privileged images in the
UCX 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 4.0, 4,1 release notes! Is it possible to set a note
in the release notes of a future version of UCX and ECO's?

| The reinstallation was the correct thing to do. The UCX kits contain
different images for OpenVMS V6.* and V7.*, and the required images are
selected during installation.
The various *REGISTER*.COM procedures are irrelevant in this case.
