5548.0. "ucx$esnmp consumes 98% cpu" by CPEEDY::BRADLEY (Chuck Bradley) Thu May 29 1997 10:33
i've got ucx4.1-12 running on a vaxstation 400-60 under vms 6.2.
i use ucx only to provide tcpip connections to a pathworks server
running on the same node. there have been no changes to the
configuration or the workload for months, except for the occasional
replacement of the pathworks kit. the most recent has been running
for 6 days with no problems.
when i left last night, there were 0 pathworks clients.
this morning, ucx$esnmp was taking 95-98% of the cpu, almost all
of it in user mode. from the accumulated time, i estimate the behavior
changed around midnight or 1:00 AM.
it took a long time to log in. even after changing process priority to
15, the system was unresponsive. there was a lot of free memory.
show system revealed ucx$esnmp at priority 8, with little i/o:
00000177 ucx$esnmp COM 8 2836 0 08:59:20.57 664 993
i killed the process and now the system seems ok.
known problem? i found nothing similar in here.
what happened? would any evidence that might still be around be useful?
thanks.
