5541.0. "SMTP direct to Exchange" by SNOFS1::FOWLERMARK (Mark Fowler) Tue May 27 1997 19:27
I'm having a bit of a problem with SMTP on UCX 4.1-eco4 VMS 6.1.
I want to send smtp mail direct from a VMS system to our local Exchange
server (snoexc2) without going via one of the US mail gateways.
I can do this by setting the alternate gateway to snoexc2, and the zone
to sno.dec.com. However, the Exchange server is no good at relaying
mail that is not for [email protected].
How can I set up UCX to send mail.dec.com mail to our local exchange
server, and all other mail to relay.dec.com?
I have tried to setting a local mx record, but ucx doesn't seem to use
it.
ipssg_mf@snov09> ucx show mx
Local MX database
Destination Preference Gateway
MAIL.DEC.COM 10 SNOEXC2.DHCP.SNO.DEC.COM
mail.dec.com 10 SNOEXC2.DHCP.SNO.DEC.COM
ipssg_mf@snov09> ucx show mx "mail.dec.com"
BIND MX database
Server: 16.153.0.183 ipsaxp
Gate address Preference Gate name
16.136.64.54 50 dashub1.das.dec.com
16.125.0.98 50 pkohub1.athena.pko.dec.com
16.34.192.72 50 mrohub1.mro.dec.com
192.208.46.20 300 mail12.digital.com
192.208.46.10 400 mail11.digital.com
193.56.15.21 500 mail21.digital.com
In this case, the mail still goes via one of the US hubs.
How can I get UCX to do what I want it to do?
Thanks,
Mark Fowler

| Any luck with this ?
I have the same problem with mails going via the States (from the UK) when
attempting to mail someone in the same building. Seems like a good way to
use the bandwidth, NOT ! ;-(
