Hi!
One of our customers has a lot of problems with smtp.
They are using ucx 4.1.

1. Analyze mail/repair doesn't work as it should.
2. Mail to users on distibutions list are not delivered sometimes.
3. If relay is used (from pop client) and the address if an MX record
   smtp fails to find the address.
4. Mail has been sent 20 time to the same recipient.

Below is some info that my customer sent me.
They are currently migrating from multinet to UCX and claims the they never 
have had this kind of problem with that product.

Anyone has any ideas about this, hints or tips in troubleshooting SMTP 
problems.

1997-04-29 UCX ANALYZE MAIL/REPAIR does not work as expected

DEC # 1296

There are a number of mails on SYS$SPECIFIC:[UCX_SMTP] which UCX_SMTP has not
been able to deliver. An UCX ANALYZE MAIL/REPAIR command does not help.

Also, if ANALYZE MAIL succeeds in re-queueing the message, there is no message 
in the queue.
And the next time running ANALYZE MAIL gives the same result: the message is 
re-queued again.

1997-04-29 UCX SMTP relay to an MX address does not work always correctly
           Also mail delivery is attempted to both the failed address and any c
c: addresses.

Lars Westerberg can not send a mail to [email protected].
There is however no problem in sending the mail directly from the VMScluster.

Sorry, this is just a very 'brief' idea: Have you tried one of these versions, UCX V4.1 PAT 8 is provided on UCX$INTERNAL: 24-APR-1997 ECO 4 is released on UCX$ECO: 23-Jan-1997 TIMA: UCXVAX_E4041 is on TIMABOX 30-Jan-1997 TIMA: UCXALP_E4041 is on TIMABOX 11-Feb-1997 ECO 2 = MUP A (VAX) or ECO 2 (AXP) 22-Nov-1996 and is submitted to TIMA. because you know, when the Engineering has provided a "MUP" (Mandatory UPdate), we should not run any system at V4.1 SSB. 	Thanks for the reply. I think they have the latest ECO installed. The biggest problem with this customer is that they are using SMTP a lot and not in the "standard" way. The use IN% instead of SMTP%, DELIVER utility, a lot of users have set up forward to other addresses, a lot of distrubution lists, POP , relay and so on. I was seeking for some info about troubleshooting SMTP problems if there was any. The problem they have are intermittent and not so easy to find. But maybe the only way is to enable debugging and do it the hard way. regards Lars Johansson
