No replies SANITY::PCUMMINGS "The perfect democracy" 10 lines 14-APR-1997 14:32 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can someone tell me why on some systems, running @UTC$CONFIGURE_TDF.COM will create or update a file called SYS$SYSTEM:SYS$TIMEZONE.DAT and others it ONLY defines/updates the logical SYS$TIMEZONE_DIFFERENTIAL. I thought it would do BOTH on all OpenVMS systems. Answers, anyone? I've seen it update the logical AND the file on some V6.1, v6.2 and V7.1 systems, but not all. /paul cross-posted in VMSNOTES conference

5443.1 | pre V7 Alpha - SYS$BASE_IMAGE.EXE is updated | KAHLUA::PCUMMINGS | The perfect democracy | Mon May 05 1997 22:18 | 24 |
And the answer is; in VAX and in V7.*, sys$system:sys$timezone.dat was updated w/TDF info. In pre-V7 Alpha the TDF got writtent to a an executable in sys$loadable_images: SYS$BASE_IMAGE.EXE. See response from the same note in VMSNOTES. /Paul <<< VAXAXP::NOTES$:[NOTES$LIBRARY]VMSNOTES.NOTE;1 >>> -< VAX and Alpha VMS - Digital Internal Use Only >- ================================================================================ Note 469.8 UTC$CONFIGURE_TDF update SYS$TIMEZONE.DAT? 8 of 8 EVMS::GRANT 10 lines 23-APR-1997 12:39 -< my mistake >- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry.... I was wrong in .6, tried to do too much from memory without looking at the code which I have now done. Prior to 7.0 on Alpha we wrote the TDF to SYS$BASE_IMAGE.EXE. While working on the TDF stuff for 7.0 we changed that behavior to match what is done on VAX, that is writing the .DAT file. Hopefully VMS behaves the same on both platforms now. The real need in 7.0 was to guarantee a valid TDF which we did not do in previous releases on either platform. |
