5433.0. "NFS Appears To Be Caching Port Numbers" by CUJO::GAY (James D. Gay - Denver Colorado) Mon Apr 14 1997 21:51

My customer is experiencing the same anomoly as was reported in
note 3001. He nfs mounts a disk on a foreign system and everthing
works fine. If for some reason the other system goes down he is
no longer able to nfs mount the same disk again.

Traces show that rather then trying to access port 111 the new
mount is utilizing the port number it utilized for the last
successful mount. No combination of dismounts and mounts can
clear this condition. A cycle of UCX fixes the problem but this is a
rather extreme remedy to them. Shutting down NFS (which to them is
the same as a reboot of UCX) might fix this, but has not been tried.

In the case we are running Alpha VMS V7.1 with UCX V4.1-ECO4.
I have looked at all the ECO's that have been coming out but have
    	not seen this problem addressed.

    	regards,

	Hello James,
Have a look to UCX V4.1 PAT7 in LASSIE::UCX$INTERNAL:
                                DEC-AXPVMS-UCXPAT7_41_5-V0500--4.PCSI
that probably addresses this issue:

!Corrections for Digital TCP/IP Services V4.1 DNFS Images
! ECO 5 updates:
! ECO A 24-SEP-1996 Alpha and VAX
! Problem:
! MOUNT does not requery portmapper if the
! server's MOUNT port has gone bad because of a
! reboot. Also, two other PSC cumulative fixes
! not yet reported against UCX.
! Solution:
! After one attempt with the cached mount port,
! zero the mount port and force a portmapper call.

Pierre-Etienne
