Hi all, our customer has the following problem with UCX 4.0 NTP (but is probably the same with UCX 4.1): The NTP-server is writing a logfile called UCX$NTPD.LOG. Always at midnight the file is closed and a new version is created. Unfortunately, only the first version (UCX$NTPD.LOG;1) does contain some important configuration/status infos (e.g. timezone, aquired server,..). Therefore an automated purge with /VERSION_LIMIT will eventually delete this file. Any way to change this behaviour ? Any other way to get these infos (with UNIX-style "ntpq"-utilities) ? Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks, Ralph

Ralph, > Any way to change this behaviour ? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but what you request is unlikely. If this is a customer problem, you could always IPMT. The simplest solution I know about is to not use VMS /VERSION_LIMIT on the directory and have a periodic command file which renamed the lowest .log version to .foo, then deleted all .log and purged all .foo. Yeah, its ugly, but it is also something you are likely to get before the eschaton (final end of time) ;-) I hope this helps, Lee _not_ the NTP maintainer |
