5354.0. "TELNETqueues stalling in the middle of a printjob" by ASHAM::H_ANDERSSON () Wed Mar 19 1997 03:14

    Hi all,

    I have a problem with "stalling" TELNETqueues. The stalling appear
    randomly and could be in the middle of a single job, and it doesn't
    matter if it's a large or a small job. It's not all TELNET-queues
    that have the problem, only a few. There's an event in OPERATOR.LOG.

    The system is a three-node AXP (4100) cluster running VMS 6.2 and
    TELNETSYM V4.1-12C. They claim they had the same problem before on
    a VAX-cluster and it was fixed by a new TELNETSYM V.CRASHTEST1

    I haven't been able to reproduce the problem at the office.

5354.3V4.1-4 and still OPEN_SOCKET_ASTPUMSEI::STUCKEYSun Apr 20 1997 20:5910

    I have another customer reporting the same error. HPLJ printers and
    telnet printing. OPEN_SOCKET_AST errors.

    This cust has just upgraded to Alpha VMS V7.1 and UCX V4.1 and applied
    ECO 4. The release notes say that this fixes there issue but they still
    seem to have the problem.
    Is there a later ECO to fix this issue.

5354.4UCX$TELNETSYM logicals required.PUMSEI::STUCKEYSun Apr 20 1997 23:0317
    Did some more reading and checking.

    Seems ucx$telnetsym_* logicals were defined in UCX$LPD_STARTUP.COM
    which is renamed during the upgrade.
    I instruced cust to cut and paste the TELNETSYM logicals and place them
    in SYLOGICALS.COM so they will not be lost over upgrades.
    I had him define UCX$TELNETSYM_RETRY_INTERVAL "0 00:00:45.00" AND
    UCX$TELNETSYM_RETRY_INTERVAL "0 00:00:30.00" and also set the HPLJ
    printers to time out after 90 seconds. All queues were then stopped and
    restarted and printing is now fine. will monitor, but believe to be
    fixed.

    IMHO..... UCX upgrade should not play with UCX$LPD_STARTUP.COM or LPD
    queue definitions and logicals should be moved to a non-upgrade file.
