Can some firendly person please either tell me or point me in the direction where I can find out the difference between POP and SMTP. I 'm sure I don't understand the difference , benefits and weaknesses of each. Thanks in advance. Regards, Ray

POP3 is a protocol for communicating with a mailbox from a client. (Post Office Protocol 3) SMTP is a protocol for transferring mail. You will usually not have POP3 without SMTP in the picture somewhere. (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) They do different things, so you can't really compare them. You can compare the protocols IMAP4 and POP3 for communicating with a mailbox, or compare SMTP with other message transfer protocols. - Dave |
