5302.0. "cluster member loses routes" by PARZVL::ogodhcp-125-128-55.ogo.dec.com::kennedy (nuncam non paratus) Wed Mar 05 1997 10:27

We have 2 OpenVMS 2-node clusters where we've seen one cluster
member lose all its routes. Both clusters have been using
dynamic routing in listen-only mode.

When we do UCX SHOW ROUTING on the affect node, all we see
are a route for the loopback interface and the local subnet.
Meanwhile, the other cluster member still has all the routes.
We do have UCX supporting the cluster alias, if that's relevant.

One system manager escalated the problem to the CSC and was
told "we advise customers to disable routing in UCX". While
we can install static routes, using dynamic routing means
we don't have maintenance if routers come & go (and each
system is on a LAN with multiple routers).

One system is UCX V4.0 on OpenVMS V6.2, the other is UCX
V4.1 on OpenVMS V6.1.

Known problem? Any suggestions for fixing?

	Known problem!

This is a UCX V4.0 bug, whereby UCX$INET_ROUTED runs out of event
flags, and never comes out of hibernation; the problem is fixed in ECO2, but
you may as well grab the latest patch, ECO#5 from LASSIE::UCX$PATCH:

Meanwhile, a quick ucx> stop routing and ucx> start routing should
get all your entries back into your routing table.
