5287.0. "UCX and Printing Trailer Pages" by VAXCAT::GOLDY (An angel in disguise) Fri Feb 28 1997 04:29

Can anyone help answer the following question (disclaimer- I'm just
posting this for a friend so don't ask me any more questions about
it as it will take time to pose the question back and get a response!):

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have a HP Laserjet defined to use the UCX LPD service which insists
on printing out a trailer page - containing job/class/host info - after
each job. When the printer was defined using UCX$LPRSETUP, the 'flag pages'
    prompt was answered with 'n'.
The UCX$PRINTCAP.DAT file does not seem to contain anything out of the
    ordinary.

    Hi,

It is always a good habit to post your UCX version when entering
requests ($ UCX SHOW VERSION). If you want to get rid of your trailer
page, you have several options to try:

    1) $ DEFINE/SYSTEM UCX$LPD_VMS_FLAGPAGES 1
Then you can recycle LPD (@SYS$STARTUP:UCX$LPD_SHUTDOWN and
         startup).

    2) Try printing with $ PRINT/PARAM=NOFLAG

    3) Use a telnetsym relay queue and see if this gets rid of the extra
page. the /on qualifier will look like /ON="UCX$QUEUE:<lpd
        queue>"

Thanks for the reply. It turns out that my friend had already solved
the problem by the time I read your reply, but I passed on your
suggestions and he said they'd tried solution 2 and worked
    successfully, so thanks again.

    Cheers,
    Jane.
5287.3Same question, but how to solve it?HGOSPS::KENNETHMon Mar 03 1997 01:018
    Hi Jane,

May I know how your friend solved the problem? My customer report to
me the same problem, but the suggestions in .1 does not work.

    Thanks in advance.

Kenneth,

If you telnet into the Jetdirect card (this cannot be done from the printer
control panel) and set BANNER to 0 (I believe the command is just BANNER:0) and
then QUIT, this will prevent the JetDirect card creating the trailer page.
