A customer is using a bunch of (aged) Epson printers connected to AlphaServers running OpenVMS. The connection is established through various terminal servers - DEC and non DEC, therefore using LAT and TCP/IP protocols. The problem is that these printers don't know about the Digital MCS character set and printing umlauts etc. does not work (the printers use the PC character sets). The customer is willing to pay us for print symbiont modifications to translate the MCS character set to the PC character set. This is easy for the LAT based printers - a formatting routine can modify the LATSYM symbiont sufficiently to achieve what they want. Unfortunately, the TELNETSYM cannot be modified the same way. - are there plans to improve the TELNETSYM and/or SMBSRVSHR library to allow symbiont modifications (like this was done for the LATSYM some time ago ? - whom do I contact about possibilities to 'borrow' the UCX$TELNETSYM sources to base the modifications upon ? Note that the customer is paying for the work and would not get the sources. Thanks for your help, Hans.

Hans, Please take a look at note 2219. This is waht you were requesting, no? I can mention this to the print symbiont engineer in VMS engineering and we'll see what they say. I see these options: 1) If VMS says they'll incoroprate the Telnetsym in the same way they have the LATSYM and the time frame is reasonable (unlikely) we wait for them. 2) You get the source and do the mods and we get the mods to use in the real UCX Telnetsym if we choose.
