5279.0. "Bind resolver problems" by VAXRIO::CONDE (Claudio Conde (MIS/RIO-DEC do BRASIL)) Tue Feb 25 1997 15:02

    Hello folks,

I'm having the following problem when I try to login from a PC in some
VMS machines using a telnet session (through KEA for WIN 95), I get the
connection only using the tcp/ip address and I got timeout when using
its hostnames, the strange is that apparently the DNS server that I
setup is running fine because between the VMS machines I don't have any
problem to login, no matter I use tcp/ip address or hostnames !

    Any clue ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Claudio.

    Claudio,

Why do you post this in this conference ? This is the UCX conference
not the PC ... nor Windows ... nor .... conference. I think your
problem realy is on the PC. First thing to check is if ping works fine,
and how does it work ? ping <ip-address> or ping <host-name> ?

Are you using the correct domain suffix?

        From Control Panel -> Network -> TCP/IP -> Properties

then check DNS Configuration, make sure your WIN95 PC Domain is
the same as the VMS machine you are trying to telnet to, or if the
domain is different, then it must also be in the Domain Suffix
Search Order list, and of course check that it is using the right
DNS Server. One last thing, you didn't by any chance have the VMS
hostname defined in the PC with a wrong IP address?

    re.1

Sorry about that...I thought that was the right place to post, anyway,
the ping works only using the address, for some reason when I use names
they are not being resolved !

    thanks,

    Claudio.

    re .-1,

No problems Claudio, I was not shooting at you .... ;-)

I just wanted to mention that the problem you were seeing was not
related to UCX but to the PC.

Did you check what .2 was talking about ? That could put you on the
    right track.
