5254.0. "Problem with erratic behavior with cluster impersonator." by CSC32::R_WILLIAMS () Thu Feb 20 1997 20:07
VAX/VMS 6.2-1H3
UCX 4.1
Hi,
I have a customer who is having a problem with the way that his cluster
interface is being changed. He has referred to the Management
documentation section 4.4.1 on Cluster Alias. He has a 2 node cluster
and the CLUSTER_TIMER is set to 5 minutes on both nodes. Nobody is
using his cluster_alias. WE0 is dedicated to his cluster alias IP on
both nodes. He also has WE1 and WE2 on these systems. So, with nobody
connected to WE0, he is expecting to see the cluster switch over every
5 minutes. What he is seeing is a switch on one node after 9 minutes
and on the other node after 14 seconds.
He was explaining that from his Unix system, he is issuing an ARP
request that will return back ethernet controller information. This is
where he sees the difference in cluster data. He expects to see the
change every 5 minutes.
What is going on with the cluster impersonator? Why does it not switch
back and forth every 5 minutes?
Thanks for any insights on this.
