5237.0. "A TCP/IP or router question on lost packets and a winsock hang on read" by MANANA::FLANAGAN () Tue Feb 18 1997 13:37
Hi,
This may really be a TCP/IP or router question...
Several users experience an occassional hang on their PC's which requires them to
reboot their machines.. Other users on a different network segment but accessing
the same server (they say) do not have the problem.
The application, TeamLinks V2.5, is doing a Winsock read using the Microsoft
Winsock.dll on Windows 3.x, against a TCP/IP connection to a server running
UCX 2.5-3.
The application is not really hung, it is doing a blocking read, waiting for
a response from the server. Is it possible that an outgoing packet from the
server was lost but the connection remains up?
Is there some part of the underlying TCP/IP protocol which
would tell the TCP/IP stack on the server or client side that a packet
never got through?
Any suggestions on how to diagnose, more easily reproduce (or fix) this?
/ Peter
