5235.0. "ftp$init.ini ftp initializtion file" by SIOG::M_CRONIN () Mon Feb 17 1997 09:22

    Hi,

The ftp initialization file sys$login:ftpinit.ini is documented in UCX
V2.0 documentation but not in later versions of the documentation.

Is this feature still supported ?
Will it continue to be supported ?
Are there plans to document it ?

I want to use it to disable VMS_PLUS mode.

    Thanks.

    Mary.

5235.1It's in the documentation.CSC32::R_WILLIAMSMon Feb 17 1997 12:367
    Mary,

I have the "Digital TCP/IP Services for OpenVMS User's Guide" for UCX
4.0 and on page 6-6 it talks about TELNETINIT.INI (6.3.2). So, yes it
    is still supported.

    Egad!

I talked to the writer and, yes, it is missing from the documentation.

The documentation will [mysteriously] reappear in V4.2.

Basically, FTP will look for and read the file SYS$LOGIN:FTPINIT.INI
when it is invoked. You can define the logical FTPINIT to point to a
file to use (i.e. for system-wide definitions, etc) instead of using
    the one in SYS$LOGIN:.

A problem, however, will prevent you from doing what you want. The
FTPINIT won't stop FTP from setting VMS+ mode in a connection -- you
can disable it but you will need to have the connection established
    first.

I believe that this SHOULD work to do what you are trying to, namely
to inhibit VMS-Plus mode from being attempted in a connection.

Therefore, if you submit an IPMT stating that you can't inhibit VMS+
mode from FTPINIT.INI, I will make the necessary changes. The sooner
you do this the sooner I can make the changes and make the images
    available.

    Hi,

    Re .3
    Maybe I misunderstand your reply.
When I disabled VMSPLUS mode in FTPINIT.INI it did disable it on a
connection. (i.e. FTP> SHOW STATUS after an open).

What change are you saying to IPMT ?

    Thanks,

    Mary.

    Yes, it does work.

I tested it the other day, and it didn't work!

I think I need a break; never mind.
